I use a free online software called "Fotoview." There are several pattern options available and can be manipulated minimally. I found early on that the best puzzles involved good selection of photos. I mostly use photos of things from nature - animals, flowers, etc. The only downside to this program is the .com address that shows up on the finished design. I then use my text edit program to fiddle with the pic until the words either disappear or are as faint as possible.
