Tennessee has two state flowers. The purple passionflower is our state's wildflower and the iris is our state's cultivated flower. I have plenty of the latter and picked a large passionflower seed pod in the fall to plant in my yard. The passionflower is a climbing plant and if there is nothing for it to climb on, it spreads out on the ground and blooms there. It is a really strange looking bloom, as showed in the center square.
