Antonio Coche Mendoza was born in the Tz’utuhil Maya village of San Juan la Laguna on Lake Atitlan in 1968. He began to draw with crayons and tempura on paper at age 7, and was painting in oil on canvas at the age of 12. In 2002, Antonio and his wife Angelina Quic Ixtamer opened a gallery called Chi Ya, an association featuring 15 artists including several of Antonio's brothers.

Wen I completed the puzzle, and enlarged it, I could see how wonderful the texture of the paint is, and how much that texture is an integral part of the work!

Ditto, Cyndi! If you consider all the Mayan artistic work over the centuries, they loom even larger, I think!

Solve #49 - 10/18/19. Love all of the bright colors in this, the details, and the different textures. I am so pleased to see that the Mayan artists are getting recognition now for their work. Love it!
