Dunedin's Baldwin St has reclaimed its world record.
Guinness World Records has reversed its controversial decision to strip Baldwin St of its claim to fame, admitting its measuring method had been wrong in a Welsh attempt to grab the title.
The backtrack was thanks to months of hard work by Dunedin surveyor Toby Stoff who proved that our street was the steepest. We Kiwis don't give up easily.
Good on you, Dunedin. , , , . . New Zealand is proud of you!

I heard about this on the radio a few days ago. Well done.

Happy to have given you a laugh☺

When PauaNZ and I walked up Baldwin st we thought the houses were on a lean, but I know that she was really concentrating on looking for left-over jaffas in the gutters!! I had a laugh over the removal of the fence post to get the car out.

We Dunedinites are very grateful to Toby, I walked up years ago, Jim drove up it when the kids were very tiny I think it was before the steepest street title. We have some other steeper streets curling up the side of the hill a bit like the one in Harlech. Jim was just saying years ago he mended sewing machines, he had one up near the top he had to park leaning on a fence post, then he could not reverse it was too steep so he had to unscrew the post.

Gravity races have a fascination. Sand marble racing is addictive to watch.

PauaNZ

Yep, we've walked up it too, and a lady jogged up past us!!!
Woohoo, they'll be able to have the Jaffa races again! :)

Fingerbreaker

It felt the steepest hill in the universe when I walked up it last year.
I'm still out of breath.

Lol! Love your Kiwi Pride!

PauaNZ

Isn't that only the fourth steepest street in England?

Fingerbreaker

Isn't there a street in Lincoln that matches your street?
