“Copenhagen is the capital and most populous city of Denmark, with just under 800,000 residents. Its city center is located inside 17th-century fortifications and moats, some of which are preserved and seen clearly in this Overview. At the north of these ramparts is Kastellet, a star-shaped fortress overlooking the Port of Copenhagen and Øresund.”

Thank you, Gayle. Now we'll have to sing that song as we're approaching the city. ♪♫♪

Oh, my. That's quite a history. I know what you mean about culture shock. After working in Saudi for 6+ years during the 1980s and taking most of my holidays in India, Sri Lanka, etc. it came as quite a shock for me when I finally came back to the U.S.

There have been a lot of changes in lots of places since my first trip to Europe when I was 21 (1964). I lived and worked in Germany and Switzerland from1977-1982. I've had a couple of trips as a handbell ringer 2008 & 2010 to eastern Germany. There have been a couple of extra trips with my parents some where between these dates with my parents and my brother and his wife. When I came home in 1982 after working there for a little over 4 years, I had reverse culture shock and I still have have some of it 39 years later.

I didn't know that either, Donna. Though I did know about the Kastellet, of which I have posted an overview puzzle before.

What a fun memory for you, Claire. It looks like there are many places by some water. Though it has surely changed, it probably hasn't grown much larger.

Fascinating picture, I had never thought of it being based on a moated fortress! Thanks.

Well, I had dinner in Copenhagen back about 1964 where the bus tour I was on had stopped. I sure cannot remember the exact location but I am sure the area has changed somewhat. I do remember it was by some water. Looks like an interesting place.
