Royal Purple Reign
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
This is in honour of her wonderful majesty Queen Elizabeth II who celebrates her 70 anniversary on the throne with her Platinum Jubilee. I have been stuck to my laptop (which is working with the occasional blip) watching Trooping the Colour and lighting of the beacons yesterday and the service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral today.
It has been a glory of pomp, brilliant uniforms, masses of gold braid and embroidery, beautiful horses and marching, music and fanfares all taking place under the benign gaze of the Monarch who has ruled so wisely and well for so many, many years. Her son Prince Charles, daughter Princess Anne and grandson Prince William, took the salute dressed in military splendour and astride very beautiful horses. It seems so long since we've seen military finery turned out in full fig. What a pleasure to watch.
The Royal ladies turned out in great style, from Her Majesty in pale blue, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall in blue hued stripes, Sophie Wessex and her daughter Louise in peachy pink.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge in icy white with a navy blue and white hat, shepherding her three children through their first public carriage ride and balcony appearance. Little Prince Louis, at four, stole the show with a range of facial grimaces and smiles, not to mention clapping his hands to his ears. Prince Charlotte has really grown up and is becoming such a well mannered little girl. Prince George as the third in line to the throne seems to be aware of the need to be decorous and is rather solemn.
Today's service at St Paul's Cathedral in London was a chance for not only the Senior working Members of the family to strut their stuff but also many of the other family members who quietly go about the business of supporting the Queen or like the chance to splash out a bit. The most colourful outfits were Princess Eugenie in a very bright butternut orange and Zara Tindall in a very contrasting shocking pink. They rather stung the eyes standing together and chatting.
I loved seeing the more elderly members such as the Duke of Kent who accompanied the Queen on the balcony at Buckingham Palace and tottered up the steep steps of St Paul's. He is such a dear man and always reminds me of the BFG in his gawky kindliness. Prince and Princess Michael of Kent were glamorous as always, Princess Alexandra (from whom I got my second name) beautiful in a very stately aged way and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
It reminded me that family has been very much the heart of Queen Elizabeth's reign. Although her duty to her countries, realms and the Commonwealth have often taken precedence in public over her family, she has never forgotten those loved one's who are closest to her heart. I am very sad that she is doing all this without the support of Prince Philip, her strength and stay.
In conclusion - God bless the Queen and long may she reign. Vivat Regina!
Elizabeth II
Elizabeth the second's reign,
Has been much to her realm's gain,
Her allegiance to her nation,
Model to those of her station,
A most wise and respectful queen,
Great as those before her have been,
We'll remain loyal to the crown,
Lest all we've built up crashes down,
With prince Philip by her right hand,
Meeting duties and touring the land,
Commonwealth realms unite as one,
Helped out by all that she has done,
May she long still be on the throne,
Reach out so bridges are grown,
Be a link to an age that's gone,
She that her subjects depend on.
