Honorable Mention, Animals in their Environment
Author: Khaichuin Sim (MY)
Location: Masai Mara National Park (Kenya)
Description: I was taking an early ride out from the camp in Masai Mara National Park, searching for the Great Migration, when I saw a rhino from far away standing beside a tree. The backlight from the early sun was too strong, so I took a silhouette instead.

You are very welcome, stunned. (¬_¬ )

Fantastic photo, very zen. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for expanding on the anecdote, Viv! :-)

A safe space for the egrets to sleep. Nice, ChuiViv, thanks for sharing that.

Perhaps a Dr. Seuss tree! It was situated on a small island in the middle of a little lake. As we watched, hordes of white egrets flew in, jostling for room among their fellow birds already perched on the wide-spread branches. Eventually the whole tree was drooping from their weight and, as dusk deepened, looked quite ghostly with its solid mantle of white.

ChuiViv, that sounds like a Dr. Seuss tree you saw!! :-))

You're most welcome, Viv. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us! :-)

Bill_I_Am, I checked your page after completing today's surreal hyena picture and found this rhino shot. Sure glad I did! You can't beat a good silhouette against a glorious sky, and this one is a real beauty! One time in Kenya I saw a tree that was so laden down with roosting birds that the branches were actually drooping. As for the rhino, since they don't have very good sight, I suspect the one in this picture wasn't bird watching. Thanks so much for sharing this delightful image.

Haha, good one, Marilee!

I think that tree is made of birds. When they're all in the air there is just a stick in the ground.
Birdtree: A rare African tree that changes hourly. Rhinos like to watch them.

My pleasure, Barb!

What all said! This is stunning, thanks Bill!

You're so welcome, luly. I'm glad it moves you!

This "Rhino Silhouette" photo is very special Bill! Thank you so much. :-)

I would suppose a rhino is indifferent to birds, but that's just my uninformed supposition.

Do you suppose the rhino is watching the birds? or just standing there?

Thanks, Pat!

Very nice, Bill. Soft.

'Welcome, Gayle. Maybe they were sleeping cozily. But then birds are usually up just before the sun, so maybe the tree has some tasty fruits they can't resist. :-)

A beautiful photo! I can't believe all those birds just took flight from that tree. It doesn't seem like they'd all be able to fit. Thanks, Bill!

Thank you, Judy. I needed a bit of peace right now. The beauty is nice, too. :-)

Yes, Cyndi, I agree!

All your posts today are beautiful and so peaceful!

Beautiful Rhino Silhouette.
