Diamond Trellis Egg - Peter Carl Fabergé, 1892.
The egg is made of gold, jadeite, rose-cut diamonds, silver and satin. It is carved from pale green jadeite and is enclosed in a lattice of rose-cut diamonds with gold mounts.

Originally it had a base of three cherubs said to represent the three sons of the imperial couple, the Grand Dukes Nicholas, George and Michael. It was given by Alexander III to Maria Feodorovna as a gift. Made in Saint Petersburg.

Thank you Janet for the info. I did some research about it and I found that originally there was a small statue of an elephant inside the egg, but it was lost for almost one century. The small elephant statuette for decades stood alone at HM Queen's Elisabeth II collection. Upon careful examination, researchers found that the tower on the elephant's back had a lid with the Faberge mark on the inside rim. The funny thing is that the elephant, which walks and moves its head when wound, was purchased in 1935 by King George V, apparently with no knowledge that it was made by Faberge!!!!!

Thank you Barb,J errys, ladywil2 and mandato for the comments. The egg's design isn't flamboyant but I believe it is as precious as the rest of Faberge eggs.

Suzy and Deanna, the egg is very beautiful and simple in a way, in comparison to most Faberge eggs. I like this simplicity. Thanks. for commenting.

Wammetji, I don't know if these eggs are for sale, the original ones are probably in some Museum.

Thanks for the info Nev...just missed her.

Lunie, Denise (Solitaire), from South Africa, was suffering from the effects of Alzheimers. In the end, this became so bad that her son reported she was unable to continue on Jigidi anymore. Her last post was around three years ago, and I enjoyed solving her puzzles too.

Reminded me of Solitaire (where could she be now?), she posted a series of these, previous years.

A beautiful puzzle thanks Marina, Faberge made so many gorgeous decorated eggs, many for the Russian Royal family. Hugs. ♥

Nice! Very fine. I agree with jerrys ...understated beauty.
