TFS, this looks like my van minus the dented in grill and hood where I hit a doe deer.

irmachac

Suzy, you have snow ...? For us sunny and warm weather. The next week is supposed to come cool down ☺

brightspark

yikes - lucky you were Not in the car xx ☺☺☺

dondi

Yes, the ice was the big story this year. Under the snowbanks there's about 2" that is going to take time to thaw. Last week, when I took my mother to Ogdensburg, we saw field after field which was coated with ice. In at least one place, the ice had been shoveled in the middle of a field to create a skating rink. I saw a spot where you could skate over the fields at least a half a mile from farm to farm, only dodging grass clumps which stuck through the ice.

pumpkinhead

You REALLY want to go back to Colorado, don't you??? :)

COden

Yes, what is needed is sunshine, I agree with that....

pumpkinhead

Your frustration is understandable, Don. Mud is fine when it's frozen but presents issues when it's not. The daytime thaws and night freezes are really messing with things. What is needed is some sunshine and a gentle breeze to dry things out.
It was nice of you to help your neighbor out and to "think" of clearing out the nests on the farm. The weather just seems to have other plans.
This has been one of the worst winters for snow, thaw, frozen ruts and ice that I recall in many years. Our driveway could have been used for the luge teams to practice on many weeks. Last week the snow was gone leaving only mud. The yard is a sodden mess (can't even get the wheel barrow to the front yard to move twigs and winter debris) and the driveway is all ruts. We'll deal with it when we get home.

Wishing you drier days ahead.

dondi

The trouble is, Suzy, that the top level of the ground has thawed - we've been having mud season for a couple of weeks (one morning a couple of weeks ago, after some rain, I couldn't back my car uphill to the house; I just made ruts and spun in the mud). This morning I decided to do my neighbor a favor, lifted the plow slightly, and made a pass over the ground next to her feeder (I've been keeping that clear), so her ground-feeding area would be clear. Unfortunately, it seems that although the plow didn't take off the surface turf, the truck tires left 2" deep ruts which I'll now have to fill when the snow melts! In that past, with the ground frozen, plowing that area worked fine.

With the snow mostly gone, I'd intended to go around the farm and clean out all the nest boxes this weekend. So much for that! We only got 5-6", but even though the sun is melting it in the plowed areas, it's enough to restore the plow banks and set spring back a ways. And with sub-freezing temperatures at night next week, it's going to add ice to the equation - after I'd finally cleared the driveway of the winter accumulation.

pumpkinhead

Exactly, Rebecca! Your chairs are clean and your patio is swept, so you have a head start on spring chores :) There was a day last week when I was washing windows with plans to finish them up this weekend. Not today, that's for sure!

Welcome back, Janet! Nice to see your internet is up and working again. HUGS!

fjed, your description is melting me. One of our stops south is in Acworth to see my nephew and family. Flowers will be nice to see!

Seems the weather is a bit wonky, Val. So many places with too little precipitation, others with too much. Wishing you a nice steady shower soon so your gardens can thrive.

Thank you, smllpkg. :) You had a fairly mild winter snow wise compared to last year. I thought you'd NEVER have all that snow melt!

pumpkinhead

You were wise to leave the plow on a wee bit longer, Don. The wind is brutal out there....and the ground is icy (according to Jim, I have yet to venture out). You must have gotten a good amount of snow last night on top of what you had yesterday. Next week looks like an improvement, and perhaps it will be safe to take the plow off for your inspection. Trade the plow for the mud boots.

pumpkinhead

We "old timers" have experience and know what to call tires, Beth. SNOW tires!

And grounded again this morning, tanned dude.

Am sending the snow your way, db. Have been keeping an eye on your weather, and "they" do seem to be wrong about your showers and rain quite often. It's been a very long dry period for you. ♥

Wouldn't you be gobsmacked if I showed up with my feather duster, Shirl??? :)

pumpkinhead

There are more free sno-cones for you today, Rebecca. :)

The cold air is coming from Canada, Willy. I'm thinking your rain may turn, sorry to say. :( We take our snow tires off the week before we head to Florida (which is looking pretty appealing right now!)

Thanks, Barb! My brother keeps me informed of the warmth awaiting us!

Folks are getting tired of it, Patti! LOL

dondi

Yup! Gotta plow. Temp at 8 AM 17°F (-8°C). My truck is coated with ice under all the snow; I plugged in the block heater, and when I start it will have to let it run for some time to melt the windshield; I'll probably have to scrape the side windows and mirrors. Fine, dense snow, and still blowing, and (sigh!) wet at ground level, so I'll have to be careful plowing over dirt and lawns. Then my mother's place. Welcome, Spring!

smllpkg101

The best thing about March snow is that it isn't around for very long. Have a safe trip and enjoy your time in Florida.

valt46

Wow that is a shame, we are having a very hot Autumn unusual weather not had any proper rain for several weeks, Jim is having to water all the gardens☺♥

fjed

I'm so grateful I now live in Georgia. We had a wet but fairly mild winter. Now the daffodils and camellias are blooming, the trees are getting their leaves, almost time to mow the yard.

jan42ful

WOW! You are all still having snow! It's been a wild winter hasn't it. Thanks and hugs, Suzy.

RebeccaB

It was summer-like today, so I swept the patio, washed the chairs, and came in to hear that we're getting "3 to 6" tonight. :((

dondi

Our forecast was originally 8-13", but as the storm strengthened, they backed it down to 8". Apparently we had 2" of that mixed with the rain all day, and now they're saying 6" - but it's just turned to snow, strong NW winds, and has started to stick (5 PM).

My truck needs to be inspected this month, and can't be inspected with the plow on. I originally thought I'd drop the plow yesterday morning for the season, and do the inspection. Then I heard the weekend weather forecast. Ours isn't going to melt immediately; temps around 20°F tomorrow morning. So I'll have to wait until morning to see if I have to plow here and at my mother's.

Temps forecast to just break freezing tomorrow, but in the low 40s on Sunday, so it won't stay all that long. But our plow banks were shrinking so well...!

Shian2

While the snow melts, did I heard you say a house cleaning day? just pop down under I have some that needs doing and it's much warmer down here, Suzy.

db66

Good job you enjoy snow, suzy!! I had to wash my car yesterday to get rid of all the dust - the dust was as thick as your snow!! (well nearly!!) However, 'they' are predicting RAIN this week but I have heard that before! We've had NO rain since December and there's so much dust in the air. I would enjoy some of your snow at the moment.

Robbos

Appears that this little hot wheels is grounded once again.

ebkrueg

We "old-timers" still call them snow tires, but "they" want us to call them "winter tires." They're better for mud and ice, too. Mine are still on, procrastination works, too. LOL :)))

PLG1958

Crazy!!! Glad it's melting quickly. :)

SunnyBarb25

LOL Suzy but good to know that it will melt soon and that you are going south on Monday....away from all that mud! Have a great time in Florida :)

ladywil2

We were supposed to get snow, but until now only rain, which I like. Then all that snow and ice can melt. We keep our tires on till middle of April (you never know)

RebeccaB

All the free sno-cones you want. ;)

pumpkinhead

Seems we've been getting a taste of it late in March the last few years, Fishes. It will be mud soon. :(

LOL, Ardy! The winter toys have been stored away in my garden shed. I even picked up twigs and branches from the yard this week. But it IS time to head south. My brother gives me weather reports on a frequent basis. My new tires are pretty spiff. They'd get us through a good amount of snow if needed. :)
Lunch was a 3 hour gab fest. Pat sends a hug back! ♥

ringleader

Forget the car. Get out the snowshoes and skis. The car will reappear in time to go south. LOL
Hopefully by then it will be safe to go without the snow tires. Sorry, Suzy. Did you get to see Pat? ♥

Fishes

Good old winter!

pumpkinhead

Very lightly, Lunie. It's melting quickly. :)

Only had about 5 inches, Beekay and it's melting. "They" say to expect 3-5 more overnight. We'll see. How much has fallen in your neighborhood?

Not to fear, Francine. It will melt in a day! :)

Lela.....Lint would be acceptable. Shredded paper would be fine. But dead skin from your scalp? EEK!

The snow tires were replaced with brand new sneakers for all seasons, Faye. Still, in my world, a jammie day and a clean the house day. :)

Nice to know winter has taken a "pass" on you lately, Floyd! Normally the winter tires are on until April here too. However, we are driving to Florida on Monday, and didn't want folks gawking at our snow tires! :)

Gladstone

We are fortunate that snow has stayed away here for a while.
I usually don't take winter tires off until mid April,
but our seasons are a lot different than yours.

gemstone

Don't bother...without your snow tires you won't be going anywhere 'til it melts anyhow! ;D

lelabugosi

What exactly IS that white stuff .............. dandruff??

bookish

Eeeek! Raining here but forecast is it'll change to that white stuff.

Beekay

ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ Spring????

Dilubreuer

Still snowing there Suzy?
