Calvin Coolidge in the 1920s. We all know how well that worked out. :-)
And that would be...?? (I can tell you who probably would lay claim to it, especially since it's under 140 characters in length! :-D)
But it was an American president who said.
Yes, it should be, Gayle!
I think that quote is probably true everywhere, Pat. Tsk.
Here I thought furniture was a lifetime purchase. I guess if you're getting new each year, it might as well be made from used Amazon cardboard boxes.
"The business of America is business."
Oops! I had it spelled correctly and then changed it. I don't know why!?
You made me laugh re: Cheerios.
That's right, mecera--we're all connected. Enjoy the Cherios! :-)
Friend reaps benefit, retailer, the same, workers, sales, delivery manufacturer, etc. all stay afloat because of these people. The same with weddings, one silly day for some, but florists, caterers, etc. all are helped by this occasion. I'm sure there are other situations that useful to some and not so important to the rest of us, however, I need to get my Cheerios now.
That's good to hear, Andy. And it sounds like mti is an integral part of certain recycling. :-) Thanks Julie, mti, Pat and Andy for your comments.
Fortunately, with so much awareness on recycling, much of what is thrown out with the trash doesn't make it to the landfill. When I moved, I had to throw out lots of stuff that I didn't need or want, yet wasn't quite suitable for Goodwill. There's a whole cottage industry thriving on such items, rehabing them and finding a market for them. God bless their industry and work ethic - quite literally "one man's trash is another man's treasure”.
What a waste on several levels.
@mti. I've heard of people buying a new car every year, but not furniture. Lucky you.
I have two "friends", their wife get ALL new furniture every year. The old, either I get or goes to Goodwill. Ever year for over 20 some years! On the other hand I have excellent furniture for nothing.
Pretty much it!
