Okay, just in Scotty had a good night. No episodes. They are weaning him off the breathing tube right now and they will test his blood gas levels to see if his blood is carrying oxygen.
I love the internet Dawn, so many possibilities. I had a co-worker that was moving to Chicago, we commuted together and he always drove. So, I asked my niece (who went to school in Chicago) of the name of a great, you must visit restaurant in Chicago, went online and bought him and his wife a gift cert to the restaurant as a going away gift - easy to pack and nice to look forward to! Such fun!
That's what I thought. They deserve a break but probably would not have thought of taking one unless someone gave them a gift cert and told them, 'Go, just go.'
It is but I've always been pretty good about putting worry on the shelf. There's nothing I can do in this case, nothing that 's going to make the worry useful so it's not helpful right now.
I did have fun on Saturday, I'm in NH and they are all in OK. So, I used the internet to do some research and send a gift cert for Scotty's wife and daughter to have a few hours off at a nearby spa. Felt like I was doing something!
They no0w know that the panic is coming from the fact that he has too much fluid in the lungs They think this will clear in the next day or so and he is aware that Angel is there, and also aware that they are going to take the breathing tube out soon and is encouraged. It's a slow slog!
Sarah, He called the first day, and told me how much it was going to cost to fix it and made me feel a little better by saying he had the same thing happen with his first laptop. I told him to go ahead and order the parts and fix it. He thought the parts would take 3 days to get there, so I'm hoping first part of next week, and I'll have it back. Your crown will be safe! ;-)
Thank you for the update, skpy. Am continuing with prayers and best hopes and thoughts. Hope you are doing okay, considering the stress you are under, with Scotty.
So, I was off to the office yesterday so not here to update. Scotty is doing much better and the nurses say he is in much better shape than when he arrived in Oklahoma City! (Not surprising,m I don't think he had anywhere to go but up.)
They started to wean him off sedatives but had to return to them as he awoke in a panic 2X and his blood pressure was bouncing around. Today, they will do a full test, taking him off the echmo machine entirely while monitoring his heart to see if he can 'stand on his own' so to speak.
he sure has been through a terrible ordeal sarah......I hope this works....he deserves to have a bit of a rest now....good luck to him.......and to you..robin
HALLO SKPY ! MIR GEHT ES WIE DIR WARTEN MEINE MUTTER IST SEIT GESTERN IM KRANKENHAUS KANN NICHT MEHR ALLEINE LAUFEN KEINE KRAFT MEHR .VERDACHT AUF ARTHRITIS ES WERDEN NOCH UNTERSUCHUNGEN VORGENOMMEN. ALLES GUTE FÜR EUCH.LENI.
At any rate,m we have heard that Angel and her daughter are headed back to Oklahoma City to be there when they start waking him up gradually and weaning him from the machine. Not sure if that is today or tomorrow.
ECMO-ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenation machine. Takes blood from Scott's body, oxygenates it and pumps it back into the body, giving the heart (and/or lungs) time to rest and heal. AKA heart and lung machine. Thanks.
Dawn, my sister called it an 'echmo machine' in a text, but she might have heard wrong or typed wrong... Originally, when they detected the blown valve they were going to insert a pump in an artery in the leg but could not insert it as the artery was too small.
Scotty is now stable again. He started to bleed around the catheter site so they needed to give drugs so that his blood would clot. That put a strain on the kidneys so he was put on dialysis to relieve that strain. Then the artery collapsed where the port was for the machine that is doing the work of the heart and lungs. So, last night 2 AM he was in surgery to move it to the other leg. That went well, no complications. So, right now back to where we were. Heavily sedated so that he stays calm.

Thank you. It's basically a wait and see right now. They will keep him on the machine for 5 days and then try to wean him off and see how his body does.
So the heart machine he's on has improved his O2 level to normal. A few days ago there was concern about kidney function which seems resolved. Sounds like all he needs is a little tincture of time to get well. (HUG)
Good luck on the job hunting front. Have you tried signing up with a temping agency whilst you look for another position. They sometimes keep you on :))
It was draining me but I'm now back getting good sleep and not worrying so much!! But, now it's out to find a new job. Just before this, I heard that my company is going to cut me back to part-time (not enough to do...) so must pick up on that front.
Sarah he is improving day after day, I have everything crossed that there will be no permanent damage. Hope you are managing to keep well whilst all this is going on, it can be so draining watching a loved one suffer. Sending healing vibes :))
This will be the last post unless there is a drastic change, I thank you all for your prayers and good vibes. Here is the latest from Debi his daughter and Angel his wife: Debi reported: All his vitals, etc are improved from yesterday. They are still working to keep his low blood pressure up but the amount of meds they are using to achieve this is MUCH less than it was. His blood oxygen levels which were around 63 are now between 95-100%!!! They have him sedated again today so he's unresponsive but most of the excess fluids that had his body bloated yesterday have drained out and he looks much better. The prognosis is looking much better today. Angel reported: We have found a great place to stay, It’s just across the road from the hospital and they work closely with the hospital. With a note from the doctor, we get a big discount and We eat free in the restaurant that’s open from 7 AM – 11 PM. Wow, that’s a big help. The doctor says he figures Scotty will continue to improve in the next five days. Slow recovery. Only then can that evaluate any permanent damage. Oh dear, oh dear.
Hugs Prayers and Blessings dear friend .. what a wonderful thanksgiving for you ♥♥♥♥ thx for the update and keeping you all in my prayers ~~~~~~~~~~ big hugs
Newest update from his daughter: Just came out of his room. He's on a LOT fewer medications. He still has the breathing tube and the rest of his stats are about the same as they have been but that's to be expected as it takes awhile to see results. They do still have him on a mild sedative mainly to keep him calm. But the best news is that he IS responsive to our voices and was able to answer yes and no questions with a shake if his head. This is the first time he's been alert since I got here Monday night!
Just to say saholbein asked me on her last puzzle to ask about addresses so that she could sent Christmas cards if I remember rswestley and hismorts were both on the same puzzle. I only thanked her but said that I would like to stay anonymous then the puzzle disappeared.
LEIDER GIBT ES IN DEUTSCHLAND KEIN THANSKGIVING ABER ICH HABE VIELE FREUNDE AUS AMERIKA DIE DAS FEIERN.ABER ICH ESSE TROTZDEM GERNE (LEIDER). UND ICH DRÜCKE WEITER DIE DAUMEN ALLES GUTE VIEL GESUNDHEIT EUCH ALLEN GRUSS LENI.
@manicpuzzler I'm not real sure of what occurred, Bonnie, but I was under impression saholbein might have left jigidi, because of something that was inadvertently said, that upset her?
