Dear Friends, Jigidiers and Guests,
Happy New Year. May 2022 bring you Happiness and Good Health :-)
I have not been to Harbin ( 哈尔滨), China, so for this January Virtual Party, I am hosting it in Harbin which is the capital of Heilongjiang Province (黑龙江省; Hēilóngjiāng), China’s northernmost province. This city is famed for its ice sculptures, ski resorts and European architecture. It is also known as the "Ice City" (冰城) and is a wonderland of snow and ice. It has been called Oriental Moscow because the city has lots of Russian influence as can be seen in some of its buildings, eg Saint Sophia Cathedral.
While we are in this awe inspiring winter wonderland, we can join in 38th Harbin International Ice and Snow festival (哈尔滨国际冰雪节: Hā'ěrbīn Guójì Bīngxuě Jié). This is an annual winter festival that takes place with a theme in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. The three main exhibition areas are :
- Ice and Snow World located in Zhaolin Park. This colourful ice Disneyland opens in the afternoon and at night, it features colourfully illuminated full size buildings, castles, gardens, flowers, animals, etc made from blocks of ice. It is enchanting to be at this breathtaking, magical and dynamic park. It promises un unforgettable experience.
- Sun Island Park, a national scenic recreational place which features the exposition of enormous snow sculptures. We will be amazed as we admire the expo of magnificent ice sculptures. It is also a winter paradise for various kinds of winter sports - skiing, skating and sledding. There are lots of photo and video taking opportunities of fantastic ice and snow sculptures and architectures at the Sun Island and Snow Art Gallery. We can also visit Russian Town which has villas built in Russian architectural style.
- Zhaolin Garden is a place worth visiting for viewing the amazing ice lantern exhibition. Let us enjoy this Ice Lantern Garden Party.
During this grand ice festival, there will be fireworks display, LED light shows, figure skating and ballroom dance performances and various kinds of winter activities - figure skating, sleighing, curling, etc.
For folks who are keen on skiing, the place to go is Yabuli. They can enjoy the marvellous snowscape and take part in various kinds of winter events, such as alpine skiing.
I see that the Virtual Organiser has just signalled to me to indicate that the birthday and wedding anniversary cakes are ready for presentation. As all my monthly virtual parties are celebrations for the babies and wedding anniversary couples of the month, let us raise our glass of champagne and toast to their Good Heath, Happiness and Joy. Cheers (干杯 Gānbēi).
Now, what is a virtual party without tasting food from the country that we are visiting. Let me mention just some of the food that the Virtual Chef has prepared for us.
For Lunch, we will be savouring mainly Northeastern Chinese cuisine :
- Guo Bao Rou (Sweet and Sour Pork).
- Demoli Stewed Fresh Fish.
- Braised Pork with Vermicelli.
- Xiao Ji Dun Mo Gu (Stewed Chicken with Mushrooms).
- Stewed Beef with Tomato.
- Braised Beef with Potatoes.
- Disanxian (Earth's Three Delicacies) - Stir Fried Potatoes, Eggplants and Peppers.
- Jaiozi (Harbin Dumplings).
- Chung Bing (Spring Pancake) with fillings of Julienned Cucumber, Raw Onion, Cilantro and Sauces).
The Virtual Chef has also prepared Vegetarian and Vegan Dishes for our friends who enjoy these food. Our furry friends can enjoy dishes which have been specially prepared for them.
When we have our afternoon tour and activities, we will have plenty of opportunities to sample some local street food and snacks - Candied Haw Berries on Skewers, Chuanr (Grilled Meat Skewers) Steamed Buns with different fillings and Madier Ice Cream.
For Dinner, we will dine in a Virtual Restaurant where we will be able to try Chinese, Russian and European cuisine.
Before you fly home on the Magic Carpet, the Virtual Organiser will present you with Russian dolls and chocolates as souvenirs of this colourful trip. For our furry friends, we have toys which have been specially selected for them.
I hope that you have enjoyed this virtual party and will drop by for the next one which I will host on 1 February.
Cheerio,
Jason.
