So many of our friends are missing. Do not know if it is sickness, internet or computer issues, loss of interest or other reasons. We miss them and pray they are ok and will come back.

Sharon72

I miss her, too. I hope all is ok with her.

Hismorts

Bev-0, I was asking that a few months ago and never heard anything. Dixie is a wonderful lady and I do miss her but have no idea how to get in touch with her.

Maybe Joe knows.

@DixieGal
Where has Dixie gal gone? Does anyone know about Dixie???? 3-12-2021 Bev.

oldandancient

Mary, dinner is ready when the turkey is done. There is only me, my hubby and my daughter, so I can actually put the turkey in whenever I want and we eat when everything is done. Usually it's mid-afternoon.

jals

Donna,
That is one of thee best movies ever! Makes me laugh every time.

Nicepeach2

@oldandancoent, what time is dinner??

oldandancient

I am laughing thinking of Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. The aunt came and brought presents...one was her cat, another was a jello mold that was leaking.

jals

It's in the mail. I hope it isn't all dried out by the time it gets there, I just put it in an envelope and slapped a stamp on it.

oldandancient

I got my turkey today and all the stuffing, etc that I make with it. The cashier tells me I can get 2 turkeys at the store's sale price, but my freezer won't hold another turkey. I guess when I take it out to thaw in the freezer, I can go back to the store and see if they have any more turkeys left and buy one for later.

Judy, you will have to send me a half can of jellied cranberry. I forgot to buy some. You know, you can use the leftover cranberry and use it like jam on toast, etc.

jals

There ya go, Dave! And then we don't have a lot of leftovers either.
Bob, I think we only have the one catering company, although the grocery stores deli might get in on the action. I do like the idea of no leftovers and no mess to clean up.

djp

I think you are on to something with the turkey burrito Bob - and maybe I'll go all out (of my budget!) and hit one of our many restaurants fixing Turkey Dinners to go!

Hismorts

Judy, I know a lot of places out here are offering complete turkey dinners for a reasonable price that include desserts. I've seen them going for $14.95 with unlimited fresh baked rolls like at Johnny Carino's. I'd call around and explore.

Maybe try a new place each year and call it a tradition!! You can't make it at home for that price when it's just the two of you, either. And I am sure you'd like to go out for dinner. I don't know a lady that doesn't. ~

jals

Donna,
I'll split a can with you. Everyone else likes the cranberry relish, but I like the gel. And your sweet potatoes sound scrumptious!

Bob,
Those drinks sound pretty darned good, I may have to try one.
I don't know if we're going to get a pie after all. The youngest son just called and said they are staying home for Thanksgiving. So no one is coming here and we had intended to go visit them this weekend and then check on the pies, but we were told they are quantining, so no company. I can always make my own pie, it's not my first rodeo. There is a catering company here in town advertising turkey dinners, so I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what a dinner for 2 would include and cost.
I hope everyone stays healthy at your house!

oldandancient

I love jellied cranberry. Love it on turkey and stuffing. However, no one else likes it and since I make my sweet potatoes with lots of brown sugar, butter, pecans and marshmallows, I eat that sweet stuff on my turkey and stuffing. Yummy.

@Hismorts
Yep, he be the one. When we would go to the Mayo Clinic in Minn. my husband always had the cassettes going of T/Ernie Ford and of course Croatian Music too.

Hismorts

Bev-0! I think it keeps me young to do all that work. But I don't feel that young when I'm done with the dishes, I clean as I go and just before I bring out the food I wash the rest of them and clean the stove so when I'm done, I'm really done. Oh... did you know that saying "Bless your little pea-pickin' heart" was first used (as well as anybody can tell) by Tennessee Ernie Ford of "16 Tons" fame?

Judy, it works so well to just let them all take their foil pans and scadoodle when they're ready. Very little mess and they all get some leftovers. Now for you... it nobody will eat that jellied cranberry, that's great!

Take 1/3 cup of cranberry and put it in a blender with 1/2 cup of ice, a good 3 ounces of sweet and sour and a good shot of tequila (you can use bourbon or rum if you'd rather) and blend it 'til it's smooth. If you want you can rim a nice glass with a small amount of sugar, salt or whatever you like, pour the drink into the glass and enjoy. With tequila it's a cranberry margarita, with bourbon it's a cranberry sour, and with rum it's a cranberry daiquiri. Not only do you use the rest of the cranberry sauce but you get to enjoy one of my favorite Thanksgiving toddies!

And a warning about Costco pies. They are extremely good, way bigger than a normal pie and usually sold out 4 days before Thanksgiving. So you may have to keep checking back to get them.

Donna, to me a 16 to 17 pound turkey is exactly the right size. That's what I use. I cut the drums off before I cook them, though. Since I serve the turkeys sliced and on platters, nobody is the wiser. I wrap the drumsticks in foil and bake them with the bird. Then just before I put the turkeys out, I cover them in bbq sauce, give them a quick 15 minute grill on the BBQ to caramelize the sauce that I'm still brushing on and serve them on their own platter. They are always gone. Never a leftover.

I do hope all goes well with the doctor tomorrow. You be careful and stay safe!!

Clive they're especially lovely to look at after they come out of the oven! And they smell better, too!

Hey Dave! Yeah, I could see a nice huge burrito made from shredded turkey, nacho-type jalapeno rings, shredded jack cheese, french fries, rice and beans with some cranberry salsa. I may just try that. Probably make a mint up here selling them.

djp

I'm going down to the corner and getting a Thanksgiving burrito!

oldandancient

Clive, maybe you don't like turkey???? My Mom used to always cook a turkey and a ham. My sister's hubby did not like turkey. Plus we had so many people....20-30 for Thanksgiving, the more food, the better. And now I cook like I am feeding 20 people. We usually get a ham for Christmas or maybe make lasagna. Our first Thanksgiving when we got married, we were 1000 miles from home. We made our first turkey together, the first turkey I ever roasted. It was great. Just the 2 of us, but we were starting our own traditions.

CJ45

Donna just to say we do not have Turkey in our house do not know why but there we go. Lovely birds to look at. LOL!!!

oldandancient

Bob, on the news they tell about turkey shortages and people wanting small turkeys. I am fixing the normal 17 or so pound turkey, if I can find one. I love cooking it with all the trimmings and having leftovers for days. No cooking afterwards. If we get tired of it, then I make a turkey broccoli casserole, which we all love. I hate cooking a small turkey breast because it seems to take just as long and I love the dark meat. Give me a turkey leg and I am a happy woman. LOL. Have a dr. appt tomorrow, so guess I will stop at the grocers afterwards and try to find me a turkey. Your meal sounds scrumptious, but we are still not going out much.

jals

Bob, I love the idea of sending the leftovers with them, except the pie. I love pie too!
Make a list of detailed instructions your daughter can follow so she can be helping and you don't have to do it all. My husband will cut and chop and peel, so that is a help and then I don't have to stand on my feet that long, which hurts my feet and my back.
We'll probably just do a roast chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry gel which nobody but me likes-lol, maybe some green beans and of course a pie. His brother told us he buys his pies at Costco and they're really good and not bad for price, so I think we might try that.

@Hismorts
Thank the Lord for giving you all this energy. I got worn out just reading what you have to do. Bless your pea pickin heart. :))

Hismorts

I forgot to say that it's gonna be like the local outdoor restaurants here too, with masks and sanitizer for each table. I'd sure hate to get anybody sick.

Hismorts

Hello Bev-0! Yeah, I've been to a few stores and have over half of the stuff we need but it seems that my daughter doesn't really know how to make a Thanksgiving dinner so I am probably going to do most of it again this year. While I'm teaching her. There's supposed to be 28 people broken into 4 groups of seven at 4 different spots between the inside yard and two of the patios. And since we have 4 bathrooms on three different floors, each group will get their own.

The food is gonna be set out family-style in each area and the four immediate families are being separated and seated together so no cross-contamination. It's a lot more work but we're saving them all a ton of cooking and I like it so...

Looks like 7 pies and a Sunkin Punkin pie-cake divided into 4 big sections and two of Kathy's famous cakes along with some cupcakes for desserts. Everything is being divided into 4's this year. So 4 platters of turkey, 4 bowls of stuffing, potatoes, green bean casserole, ambrosia salad, Carlota salad and 4 sauce pans of steamy hot gravy. And I'm making 80 yeasty dinners rolls which is about my favorite thing to make other than 20 pounds of stuffing. And the 3/4 of a gallon of gravy. So it's gonna be a blast.

But the best part is that just about everything is served in disposable aluminum pans so when they all leave, they all take what's left on their table with them and there's no leftovers for us to deal with. Well, except the pies. I love pie! ~ smiles

@Hismorts
How the heck are you Bob-O. Getting ready for your gang on Turkey Day? I know this time you will have help. That is a Blessing.

Hismorts

@DixieGal

You have been missed. Hope you're okay.

@DixieGal

DixieGal

I do have one, Sherry. I'll put it on here today.

Dixie, your baby is almost a year old...do you have a recent picture? ... Sherry :)))

jasonchung2

You are most welcome, Sherry.

I am happy to be able to give you a clearer understanding of a sealed account according to what I have experienced when trying to do certain things with such an account.

got it...thank you...stay well...Sherry :)))

jasonchung2

Thank you for asking, Sherry. I am well :-)

I am happy to answer your question regarding sealed accounts.

A sealed account is an account that has been sealed by Jigidi. The user of this account can no longer create and post puzzles, solve puzzles (his or her own at this account or puzzles posted by others) or reply to comments on this sealed account (or at other puzzle creators' account) though folks can still visit, solve puzzles and write comments at puzzles at the sealed account.

I asked Jigidi to seal @jasonchung1 so that I can keep @jasonchung2 and @jasonchung

@jasonchung1 all the puzzles that I have created from the first day to the last day are still available for solving by others (but no longer by me).

Hello, Jason...hope you are doing well...you have piqued my interest...what is a sealed account, please? ... Sherry :)))

jasonchung

Dear Dottie,

Thank you for solving my puzzle of Jacaranda Trees @jasonchung1 which is now a sealed account. Folks can still solve puzzles at this account of mine and write comments, however, I can only read their comments and cannot post a reply to them from this particular sealed account.

So, I am using my second account @jasonchung to reply to you at one of your puzzles.

Thank you for solving the puzzle and for the compliment. I am very happy that you like the beautiful purple trees which are in full bloom :-)

Best regards, Jason.

DixieGal

Thank you, Ken.

Hi Donna! So sorry I have missed some of your notes. I can't seem to keep up with you lately! We are all doing well and I do hope the same for you and your loved ones. Thank you for your prayers. That means so very much to me! I wish you lived closer to me. Then we could talk as much and as long as we wanted to! Do take care of my sweet friend...YOU! I will be looking for you.

dblay

Good morning, Dottie. Haven't heard from you in a LONG time, except a "hello" on one of Haney's posts. :-)) Hope you are well and I do not know where to leave a message anymore so I hope you get this one. I've left messages on this page and on the first picture of the wall hanging so I don't know if you are getting them or not but, if you are, I just wanted to check in and see how you were doing. :-) I wish you well and still keep you in my prayers, my friend. Hope you are enjoying those two great grandkids. :-)) Take care and best wishes, always.

klocowolf

What a great name.

dblay

Good morning, Dottie. I last sent a message on the "first picture" on your site and it was on December 22nd and I've been wondering where you were and decided to try this picture and here you are. :-) I saw your new Avatar of Esther Leigh when you wrote to Haney so I wanted to tell you she is SO ADORABLE and beautiful. I know you love her so much and I also know she is wonderful for you and your family. I am sure Nash is growing like a weed too. I hope you and your husband are doing well and enduring these up and down temperatures and rain we have had. We did not get any snow yesterday as predicted and all the schools and a lot of businesses were closed. :-) You know how it is in Alabama. (ha) Take care and wishes for the best for you, my friend.

CJ45

Oh, Dottie that means she will be crawling soon. How exciting.

DixieGal

Thank you, bevpuzzler8!! You are correct about her age!

Come to think of it she is 4mos. old now. :) Sweet!!!

She is wonderful as is great grandma. Best wishes to all your loved ones. Bev. 1-21-19

Nicepeach2

What a precious and beautiful girl. I know you are so happy. It has been a long time since I have seen you and hope you have a great New Year. Hugs, Mary

DixieGal

Thank you, Ken!!

DixieGal

Hello Donna! All is well here and I Hope you are well and happy! How is the weather up your way? It's okay here, just a little 'nippy' but nice after our long hot summer! Yes, it would be heavenly to live closer to our grands, but wishing won't make it so. Haha! Is that a song? Stay well, my friend! Big hugs back to you!

klocowolf

Hello Esther you're a mighty fine looking young lady.

dblay

Just checking in again to say "hello." I know that every chance you get, you are enjoying that sweet Nash and adorable Esther Leigh. I just hate they live so far away, at least Nash does. These days, one hour seems like a lot but it does go by pretty quick IF ONE DOES NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH ATLANTA TRAFFIC. (ha) Been there, done that, in a pouring rain. Not fun. :-) Hope you and your husband are doing well. Hugs, my friend.

DixieGal

Thank you, dbnc2!

dbnc2

she is beautiful

DixieGal

Thank you so much, Haney! I love her name, too.

DixieGal

You're welcome, 6toedcats! You are correct, she is a little angelic bundle of joy! :)

hcamp

Dottie, I am getting in late. Thanks for sharing your lovely bundle of joy. What a beautiful name! Haney :-)

6toedcats

Thanks for sharing your angelic bundle of joy! :)

DixieGal

Thank you, Bev! Yes, the traffic in Atlanta is horrendous (did I spell that right?) :D

@DixieGal
Hi Dottie. I just read your response to Bob. You mentioned traffic in Atlanta. Years ago, my husband would begin the drive to Florida. When he had enough I would take over and usually I would be the one in the Atlanta bypass, and that was a struggle for me, but I'd get through it.
The good days gone. I love this adorable bundle too. Bev. 9-3018

DixieGal

Thank you, "the other Donna"...haha! Yes, they grow up so fast. Nash is already 9 months old. Where does the time go??

Thank you, Bob! I think she's adorable, too. Just wish both of our great grands lived closer. Esther lives about an hour away...that's not too far. But Nash is about 3 or 4 hours away. Depending on how much traffic we run into in Atlanta. It's usually a lot!!

Hismorts

What a great way to brighten a Sunday, Dottie! She's so adorable!!

dblay

Oh, Dottie, what a beautiful and precious little girl. I know you are so happy to have her and hold her and love her. You have loved and posted pictures of Nash (who is a doll himself) and now you will have to take time about with the two of them. (ha) Maybe you will get a chance to get a picture of BOTH of them together and use it as your Avatar. :-))) Congratulations to all of you, my friend and enjoy her every chance you get because, as we all know, children grow SO FAST. Hugs and prayers for you and your family. Signed -- the "other" Donna. (ha)

DixieGal

Thank you, Donna. I have two great grand babies. My great grand baby boy was born last Christmas Day. He is the one in my Avatar. I'll have to give Esther a turn in the avatar now. :)

DixieGal

Deanna, thank you for this wonderful sentiment!!

Deanna

Dottie thank you for an amazing photo of your little Esther, so much happiness in your family. I wish your granddaughter a happy and beautiful life and for you all a lot of joy and love :))

DixieGal

Thank you, Robin!! I agree...Nothing better!
Thanks, Ken. You are right...They grow up too fast!

klocowolf

Wooo Hooo, Congratulations. She'll be up and running in no time.

My daughter, granddaughter, her late father and my brother are all September. Wow!!! Enjoy your great granddaughter.............Wendy
