My mum had an audition to sing with the Ivy Benson band and Ambrose

I had a visit from one of the Cheeses last night on the Lou Reed 110* :o)

well take a look at this, this was what started it off - I was going to post Hoagy Carmichael with "my resistance is low however, whilst it flopped in the USA it was a hit in the UK but just take a look at Jane Russell and Victor Mature.

I can't wait to give her a listen. An all-girl swing band sound PERFECT to me! Has anyone seen the Japanese high school swing bands? They're fabulous, and one even marched in the Rose Parade a few years ago. (The Tournament of Roses, on January 1, the day of the Rose Bowl, with all the super-fab floats made ONLY of flowers and vegetation.)

Well I thought in order to balance out the enormous celebrity of Glenn, a famous British lady of equal standing would do .... These were the disco days of the 40s

We had one of her 78's and my mum and dad used to dance around listening it, and Glenn Miller, of course!

Ivy Benson (11 November 1913 – 6 May 1993) was an English musician and bandleader, who led an all-female swing band. Benson and her band rose to fame in the 1940s topping the bill at the London Palladium, and became the BBC's resident house band.
