A sudden 70+ degree day brought the mallards to the park swamp recently dredged to give them a deeper playing field and they were beyond joyful. We watched them and the turtles who interrupted their hibernation to come up from the bottom to bask in a little warmth for a while. The temps are dropping today with snow predicted tomorrow. What a roller coaster this winter!

Nellies, thank you for your sweet comments. Today we walked by the swamp. The temps today were about 35 and the mallards seemed to have lost that “joie de vivre” that we saw Thursday. They must have loved the warmth but as expected it’s definitely gone. In its place we now have a sleety icy mix.
