Why are you reporting this puzzle?

John William Waterhouse RA (1849 –1917) was an English painter known for working first in the Academic style and for then embracing the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood's style and subject matter. His artworks were known for their depictions of women from both ancient Greek mythology and Arthurian legend.

Clive and Andie, please don't feel bad about taking time to solve the Jigidi puzzles. There is no hurry to solve a puzzle, we are not part of a rally, everyone has his/her own pace. For some people it is important to be on the leader board, so what? This doesn't apply to everybody. We do as we please at our spare time. Talking to people about the puzzle and exchanging view, experiences and memories is more important than going for the First Prize..or the best timing. At least for me.

This is wonderful, Marina.

It's just that you mentioned the Arthurian legend..Thank you for all the details about the Greek God Boreas commanding the North Wind .Anything to do with Aurora Borealis (Northern lights ) I wonder.
I had never heard of him anyway .As far as I knew Éole was the God of winds..
Shows you I don't know much about mythology but I do find it interesting .Thanks Marina.

MarinaNephele

You've put it very nicely Jillian. John Waterhouse was interested in painting mythical subjects of classical mythology, medieval and Arthurian legends.

MarinaNephele

Janet, thanks for your kind words. The Jigidi site and all of you have been an inspiration for me which is reflected thru the puzzles I post.

MarinaNephele

No, Andie she is not the Lady of Shalott. Waterhouse had painted a series of windswept women, between 1902 and 1903, which appear to be figurative reproductions of women at the mercy of the ancient Greek god, Boreas, who is said to have commanded the North Wind. At the mercy of Boreas the wrapped woman faces the coming of winter and the violent temper of the God.

MarinaNephele

Michelle, the wind had almost swept her away. It is very realistic painting, don't you think??

You are welcome Val!

Thought it might be the lady of Shalott ? She is so pretty and I love the way her dresses and her hair seem to be floating in the wind.Stunning painting Marina .Thanks.
