Why are you reporting this puzzle?

There are still a (new) number of Crocus in bloom and the Hyacinths grow and are coloring up. There are also Tulips coming above the surface! Liertje had to put chicken wire around the tubs to create an "entrance block" of about 20 cm high. Some Magpies tried to dig up or nibble on the Hycinth bulbs. Hopefully they will get the message and give up, so that we can remove the wire again.....Lasagna tubs without chicken wire around the tubs looks much more cheery! ☺☺

Wonderful Display and good idea.
We do feed the birds in our back yard, but just wish they stay away from
the flowers in the front. It's just a certain plant that they go after.
We the only house in this Crescent to have a garden in our front yard, the cats love coming here. I have been moaning about them ,one neigbour has 8 cats !
Anyway now they are doing a good job, hasing the birds, everything Arthur plants in that particular spot ,the birds eat. It is noticeable because it's a ring of smll daisies around a tree. Now and then they do catch a bird, that I don't like.
Just chase them away pleases ! 😊💕💕💕

Impie

Thank you, Maureen. I'm glad you enjoy them. We don't mind feeding the birds and we do this in our back garden every winter season, but this Magpie was out to destroy the bulbs or digging them out. That's were the wire came in!☺
Many cats in my neighbourhood roam free. My cats have never been on the streets, but some people just let them. The downside is that they also can come in other people's gardens by climbing the fences and use our gardens for litter tray:(((

Thanks Impie I do love your Lasagna tubs. Good idea !
Good idea the wire,we have a patch of Succulent daisies like flowers the birds keep eating them. For the first time I'm happy all the cats in the neighbour hood ,try to catch them, but instead chase them away..
hugs Maureen. 😊❤️❤️

Impie

I'll post one of the other tubs in a moment, Anne, where the Hyacinth are a bit further then in this tub! Enjoy!

Thank you, Lia. It was such a lovely idea. My son creates them for a couple of years now. We always watch BBC2 Gardener's World and he was inspired to give it a try too and it works great! It really looks cheerful in our front garden.

Oh my, thank you so much, lurdo. We enjoy them very much!

Stunning, no other words can describe the beauty of the flowers.

Lia

It looks so good!
It was only recently I heard - and later on understood - what planting in 'lasagna' method is. I wish I had known 20 years earlier!! It makes your tub look wonderful!

Atsutsa

I can hardly wait to see that hyacinths in full bloom. They are one of my top 5 flowers.

Bikerkath

Thanks @gemstone! Good tips; I'll get some bulbs end of the summer & give it a go. Worst case, rotten bulbs & no blooms Spring of 2024! We get below zero up here, but I love what Impie does!

Impie I never even Noticed the chicken wire, so taken with the buds! Good call, just a layer of hyacinth & crocus, see what it does. Right, Not too close to the edges of the tub! Ha, maple weekend, not sure I'll drive anywhere with the horrible sleet/snow for tomorrow!? Maybe Sunday? but, one gets the crowds then; my friend's son boils syrup, I can go on my own...her son went to school with mine, took over the family farm/even a wedding barn!

gemstone

Pink will be predominant! LOL 💕💗💕

@Bikerkath You could wrap a number of layers of newspaper around your tub, Kathy...and perhaps a layer of bubble wrap on the outside...that would help insulate against the cold. Also, here they recommend keeping plants watered before a freeze as that helps protect the roots...but I don't know about Vermont... 😊😊😊

Impie

Thank you so much, Jill. From behind my kitchen window I can see the 3 tubs...it such a lovely sight!:)

Impie

Yeah, GG, I'm glad he spotted the Magpie doing it. He went outside and got scolded off by the Magpie ☺☺ He got inside and looked out the kitchen window....and there the Magpie was again!!! That made him decide to put wire around the tubs. It's the thanks we get for being kind and feed the birds in Winter 🙄....they immediately think they own the place LOL When the tubs get fuller with blooms, I guess (hope) the wire can be taken off again! It's good to here your weather is improving. We all are longing for Spring weather!!! ☺

Aww, thank you, Betty, but still we like it much better without the wire! ☺

Thank you, Kathie, I agree. In one of the tubs a blue Hyacinth is in bloom. I like it but the buds have 'something' special, almost cute. I really don't have a clue if you are too cold to create tubs. I'd say give it a try, maybe with 2 layers (Hyacinths and Crocus?) so that you can plant them deep enough and not to close to the edges of the tub!

Enjoy your Maple weekend and the proces of the syrup making !♥

JillianB

It is looking wonderful, thanks Impie

Bikerkath

Goodness, even the buds are adorable! This coming fall, I will plant a tub,
I would love flowers to come up in layers; but, do you think we are just too cold over here? Bulbs in VT are planted 6 inches deep. I love your tubs!
My daffodils/hyacinths/tulips are still fooled by the warmer temps-40F/4-5C
they are up 4-5" now, snow/sleet tomorrow, then, as weather in VT does, it changed & Sunday-Thursday is clear, snow then, but we are at the time where we don't get much now. Maple weekend all over the state! Open house, sugarhouses, samples, sugar on snow (boiled sap, thick, poured over fresh snow, eat with a pickle!) & visit the process! I haven't been in years..

Even with the chicken wire it is stunning!

GOSPELGRANDMA

I'm glad Liertje was able to protect these while they are growing, and I trust you won't have to keep the wire up for too long! I don't have any flowers to photograph yet, but the weather is going to warm up this coming week around here! I'm looking forward to that! ☺

Impie

I'm glad we're having dry and sunny weather today,(13°C.) but the wind/storm is rather heavy! Actually I'm a fair weather photographer myself too!😁😁😁

tisketsmum

My hyacinths are starting to bloom too Impie. Shame it keeps raining so I can't get out to photograph them. Strictly a fair weather photographer me 😁😁😁
