Pit 91, La Brea Tar Pits, Los Angeles, California
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
As the scaffolding makes obvious, this is a pit currently being excavated, with about 15 feet of depth yet to go. So far, the largest number of skeletons pulled from this pit belong to saber-toothed "tigers"; overall, dire wolves are the most common finds. As the larger animals (mammoths, mastodons, and giant sloths) became trapped in what had seemed a nice watering hole, carnivores found a good meal irresistible--and themselves became trapped.
