I hope this never happens to anyone else ... But anyone out there that is using Windows 10 you better back everything before you get the new update ... Once it locks up your computer there is nothing you can do ... Duncan told me he has had so many asking him to help ... I was lucky I had purchased this. When I had to buy a new hard drive for the office computer I purchased this .. I has been a life saver..

Thanks for the info Pat...am using my IPad which we bought way back 2010 in Germany. Didi has been changing IOS, lately it was too slow and more often crashing so yesterday he decided to change IOS into Version 6 and it is doing great so far.

Win10 updates ALWAYS mess up my laptop and I have to reset many things after running them. This latest one caused my winexplorer.exe to fail and wouldn't start until I switched to Administrator mode and ran cleanups and antivirus checks first. Took about 12 hours.

On another note, i was a network administrator for some years and have been given a number of laptops and desktops that the owners couldn't get to work and just wanted to get rid off, resulting in a number of extra hard drives. Using the Insignia HDD Enclosures (both laptop and desktop versions) had given me a large amount of extra storage space using these extra hard drives. Of course you can use this to plug a hard drive from a non working unit into the USB plug on a fully functioning unit and access everything on the first hard drive, saving what you need or want to the new unit as well. Data need not be lost.

racoonstar, I still have the innards of my XP, so maybe I'll try that. I miss the XP games, too...........Wendy

I don't know what this is, Pat. I have been moving all my pictures to an external hard drive and documents next. I had the notice of the big update and it started but got another notice that it was unable to complete. Guess I was lucky. Troy has me backed up at his parent's house and their computer backup here plus in the clouds. Thanks for the warning.

Wendy - I love the old computer games on Windows XP. When Microsoft announced they were dropping support for it, I built a small computer just to run XP for the games. Once it was built and XP was installed, I hooked it up to the internet long enough to download the last updates, and then disconnected it. It will never be connected to the internet again, as there are too many vulnerabilities in XP.

If you are connecting to the internet you need a modern system that is still being updated, and that has up to date anti-virus protection. :)

I absolutely hate Windows10. I miss my XP soooo much. It was everything I needed both at home and at the Legion office. I do all my banking on-line so thought I had better upgrade, wish I hadn't now. So far the updates on my Apple laptop and the Windows10 desktop have not affected me, but I will be on the alert. Thanks for the info Pat, much appreciated..............Wendy

I have one like this, and I also have a bigger one that's really not portable.

I do backups of my main computer (a Mac Mini) once a week, and backups of my other computers about once a month (Windows 7, 10, and one Windows XP).

That happened to me...I updated my iMac, something went wrong and it got stuck. The only thing that could be done, erase everything and start over. So I lost everything as I did not make a back up.
