Why are you reporting this puzzle?

This 'statue' of Colin Firth was placed in Serpentine Lake, Hyde Park, to promote Drama, a TV channel dedicated to British programs. It was 12 feet tall, made of fiberglass, and recreated a scene from the 1995 television adaptation of Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice. It was scheduled to go on display at several locations before being placed in a lake in Lyme Park, northwest England, where the scene was filmed. This installation occurred around 2013 - I don't know if it's still up or not...

Oh, my! This is truly horrible!!!! :-O

@rswestley Re: Elvis! ROFL! You are a riot! :-D

Surreal_Heidi

Still a bit blurry, and watering too much. But the bruising is gone and only a tiny bit of swelling left.

morepiecesplz

@Surreal_Heidi - how's your eye?

togocat

Right, @Surreal_Heidi ! 100%.

Surreal_Heidi

This is from a scene that was added for the A & E version, and was never in the book. I've never understood why screenwriters think they can do a better job than the original author did. They need to stick to the book and if they think they're better writers, they can write an original work instead of changing a classic.

togocat

I've never watched a film version of P&P. I have my own ideas about what Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy look like, and don't need anyone else's vision; film tends to stomp out my own mental images and so I just don't watch. I always try to avoid movies based on books I know and love.

rswestley

Thanks Marlene, I appreciate your comment. I think I must be the only guy in America that has never played with a Play Station, Nintendo or an X-Box.... I'm still perfectly happy playing with my Mr. Potato Head

Marlene01

@morepiecesplz Where did you sent it to? To my email in profile?

By the way I do like the wrinkles in the shirt. That looks indeed how you look coming out of the water wearing a shirt.(although normally you do see such a sinister expression) To hink Mr Darcy could be scary.I think he is quite sexy. (disclaimer:not this version) LMao.

@rswestley you made me laugh.

Mischka

They did a fairly funny parody of this scene in "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" (with the rowboat and the reading).

I'm a fan of the Bridget movies and of the 1995 "P&P" - for me, Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth will ALWAYS be Lizzie and Darcy. I feel embarrassed for all other remakes.

The artist here did understand that Darcy is feeling intense emotions. Unfortunately, the intensity is from sexual frustration, and this robot looks as though it has just discovered the possibilities of homicide. All wrong.

Thanks for giving us what info you had, mpp.

rswestley

You guys are too critical. I think it looks alot like Elvis. Black hair, long sideburns, the "gimme a another hand full of pills" look in his eyes. And what better place to erect a statue of "The King"... in a lake surrounded by water. After all, Elvis did die next to a toilet. Wait! This is Elvis... right?

Surreal_Heidi

How awful! He was delightful in Pride and Prejudice, and this is a terrifying parody, not a tribute.

Ms_Maddy

Yikes! That’ll scare the bejesus out of the local wildlife.

Right, Gulliver... a high school homecoming parade. It's ugly, cheesy, creepy. And silly and pointless.

Gulliver

It looks like something you would see on a parade float made out of paper mache..

KittyCounselor

He played King George VI in The King's Speech and he was in the Bridget Jones movies. He's fabulous; this sculptor really did him wrong.

rswestley

Is he the same guy that played Gort in the 1951 classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still"?

@Marlene01 - yes, this is pretty bad. I just sent you a picture of a man in a wet white shirt... THAT'S how it's done...

KittyCounselor

How awful! He's such a good-looking man, but you wouldn't know it from this.

Marlene01

This is quite funny because of its creepiness. Thanks for sharing.lol

kayboblee

You are correct, morepiecesplz, this is truly weird and creepy--and on so many levels. What were they thinking? Surely, someone had the decency to remove it so it would be no more--e even if they did it in the middle of the night. ;-))

Watchman

I bet it scared all the fish and birds away.
