I was there for may one year.....and it really was lovely.....I didn't get father south than edinburgh....but I went all 'round the rest of the country.....my son was there for a few years working with amec on the oil rigs in the ocean......so I just popped across the pond to bother him for awhile and make sure he was brushing his teeth and etc....lol....it was a wonderful month
Yes Robin I remember but Scotland is so much nicer (I think) in the summer months that is if we have a summer still waiting in the UK may be it is around the corner but we will not hold our breath.
for a long time before I went to scotland I was excited to travel everywhere by train...and then it turned out just to be another rapid tranist.....I was so disappointed....I guess any fool would have known that is how it would be......but I just hadn't given it a thought.....it was an awful letdown let me tell you,......geez I am sooo dense sometimes...but I did love all the places that that stupid (lol) train took me and I hope to come back and have more time and more travelling..we will see
it is one of the best attractions of the park clive..and mostly local people use it....great place to take the kids on a sunday or ???.....but we only have one......yours seem to be a real society with many around the country.
wow clive...that was a great page...I loved the movie of the train going round the field...it was a beautiful place to have it...and in all your pictures the train is very small....ours is bigger and we only have one place.....in vancouver's stanley park......but it is a fun thing to do if you are in vancouver for the day.....thanks for the link....my dad used to take us kids down to the roundhouse in vancouver and we would watch them turning to go back the other way.....so cool..lol.....I have trains running right behind me now and our family house is just up the hill ...so and they ran right across the hill above our summer house too....I have been inundated by trains all my life it seems....thanks for the memoried clive.
I grew up in western Mass (a.k.a. the OTHER Massachsetts, west of Rt 128!). Hope you get your passport stamped and head north and west, the TSA is pretty heavy at 128 crossings!
Wow Jerrys...I did just google it and found lots of beautiful antique train excursions...riverboats too! (All in the New England area!) I'm from Boston MA. and I don't like to fly. [Cafe' Lafayette in NH sounds doable...maybe even this summer!] Thank you for the idea & info! ~ Lori
Hi Jerrys...(ha ha) - If I 'clear' the bank-robbery..I will do that! ☺ I have seen an excursion trip across Canada that looks beautiful. Not 'steam' (I don't think) but would love to go! Your trip sounds great! The autumn colors would be beautiful! Thnx! ~ Lori
There are steam train excursions, many held in the fall. Google them, rob a bank and enjoy the ride. Have been on a private train with a steam locomotive that was coal burning...a bit smelly, and the air carried small cinders that had to be combed out of my hair later. It was a good time, however. Some excursion trains let you out and then the train backs up so you can get photos similar to this as it charges forward and past you.
So glad you all like this photo! I did too, when I saw it I couldn't NOT post it. Great photography by Matthew Malkiewicz. (I've never been on a train like this, and the 'soot & smut in your eyes' sounds awful ! (ha ha) Thank you for your kind comments. ~ Lori
We were there last year Jayne, here are some of the photos I took in Broceliande. If you have time you can have a look at my puzzles. http://www.jigidi.com/created.php?id=3DXO0I4X http://www.jigidi.com/created.php?id=LJ95UB8 http://www.jigidi.com/created.php?id=1YD4J5Y8 http://www.jigidi.com/created.php?id=OPKUTFH7 http://www.jigidi.com/created.php?id=RYC8BOT0 ♥☺♥☺♥
Oh lucky you - that's a part of the world I've always wanted to visit. I'm steeped in Arthurian legend so the forest of Broceliande is known to me through books. Then of course, there's Mont St Michel where the Tour de France started yesterday.
I know what you mean Jayne as teaching had become more difficult just before I retired but I enjoyed every minute of it in the good old days. Well as I am retired plenty of time to travel a lot.Back from a trip to the Spanish border, and probably heading to Brittany soon if the weather improves. ♥☺♥☺♥
Beautiful photo for sure but I'd rather use electric trains.. You always got off the train with a black face due to the soot just because you'd been looking out of the window and happened to cross tunnels full of smoke then.
