Pierre Bonnard (1867 – 1947) was a French painter known for using bold colour and stylized decorative qualities of his paintings.

He did not paint from life – instead, he drew and sometimes photographed his subject while making notes about the colours. He liked to paint friends and family members in everyday scenes, like the one we see in Today’s Daily Jigsaw Puzzle.

Before he devoted himself to painting, he studied both literature and law and later, he also shortly practised law. But upon selling one of his artwork – a design for a poster for a French champagne firm - he convinced his family he could make a living as an artist. Indeed he could. He became a successful and well-renowned painter of his time.
