CJ45 you missed the best story about London Bridge and it being moved to the USA.

'On 18 April 1968, Rennie's bridge (Rennie was the builder of London Bridge) was sold to an American. It was purchased by the Missourian entrepreneur Robert P. McCulloch of McCulloch Oil for US$2,460,000. The claim that McCulloch believed mistakenly that he was buying the more impressive Tower Bridge was denied by Luckin (London Council) in a newspaper interview.

Link to tower bridge https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_Bridge and another link which shows all the bridges across the Thames

I understand, Clive; and I really feel for you and your nation in this current atmosphere of unbelievable unrest and fear. I don't blame you for wanting out of that climate! Please keep us posted--I was not aware that things were this bad, my friend!

CJ45

You are correct Maggs our police in general are not armed thank goodness we do not want to be a nation of shoot to kill but we now have special units of police that are armed and we take it most seriously if they kill someone and there is always an inquest and the policeman is not allowed to go back onto the street till everything is settled. I know that must be seen to be daunting to you but that is who we are. We have a new problem from immigrants from Eastern Europe ( that is why we are leaving the EU.) as they carry knifes and have no problem stabbing our peoples for whatever reason, so we have to change our laws to stop these people carrying knives as they do not understand. It might be alright in their country but not in Britain (the UK) and they must abide by our laws sadly the European judges which we are still tied too disagree, so another reason to leave the EU. for myself I cannot wait to leave them all.

magsIII

Clive ~ You mean to tell me that prior to all the terrorist uprising, your police were not armed?! And I agree that, yes, the army should also certainly be out there as experts, but police that were unarmed seems a disaster waiting to happen. Oh whatever happened to the simple life (or at least the illusion of back in the day)!

CJ45

Oh Maggs and jeri our police are just family men and women like ourselves but because of recent muslim clowns blowing themselves up and killing innocent peoples and children we have had to arm our police with guns which does not give me any confidence in them sadly. I would prefer to see our army out there with their guns as they are totally trained and are so disciplined and it they say we are going to shoot and kill you then beware that is what they will do!

magsIII

Great story, Clive. Guess you had no problems getting yourselves into trouble back in the day! Ah well, that's what boys do to (as Jeri said) make some good memories! It wasn't even a case, though, of good cop/bad cop; just bad cop/not-all-that bad cop! What fun!!

CJ45

Yes you are correct Jeri, But the city of London police at the time were the most aggressive force and did not like anyone, and to find one that was helpful was to say most incredible although at the time he was also aggressive towards us and showing no compassion just doing his job but knew what our problem was. Like I said to Maggs he just wanted us to get out of his hair as the other policeman wanted us of his beat on the other side of the bridge. LOL!!!

jeribar8

You were "making memories", Clive.

CJ45

Hi Maggs yes the London Bridge encounter there were 4 of us boys that went to college in Croydon a very small town at the time and we had a Ford Zodiac shooting brake at the time. It was a 2 liter straight six car but only had 3 forward gears on a colume change gear stick which would get stuck sometimes (good ole Ford) NOT. We were going over London Bridge when the gear stick got stuck and we could not move. The next thing thing we new was a policeman saying you cannot stay here boys, so get out of the car all of you and push it to the north side of the bridge, which we all done and it was a heavy car lol!! when we got on the North side on the bridge there was another policeman this time from the city Police who was not a happy bunny as we were causing a traffic jam and also annoying him. His attitude was alright boys what is your problem and we said it was the gear shift mechanism he said lit the bonnet which we did then he told us what to do to correct the problem and restart the car and it worked we all tried to thank him but his words are not appropriate on jigidi all he wanted was for us to get off his beat. LOL!!!

magsIII

Nighty night, Clive ~ no dreaming about bridges and towers!!

CJ45

Maggs got to go to bed now have to be up early in the morning to take Grandson to the airport to see his girlfriend in Eria on the west coast as he is missing her.LOL!!!
But will let you know what our police done to us on then the London Bridge. tomorrow. LOL!!!

magsIII

Clive, I'd love to hear *that* story, lol!
Until today, I never even knew we grabbed the London Bridge for ourselves!

Hey Clive ~ I remember as a kid we sang ♫ "London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down; London Bridge is falling down, my fair Lady."♫ What was THAT all about?

Great pic, Jeri!

racoonstar

brightspark - "London Bridge" is no longer in London, UK. It was disassembled in 1967, shipped to the US, and reassembled in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

And I rode in a boat under the bridge during a water skiing trip to the lake...many, many...uh...many years ago. :D
