It's Mickey Mouse's Birthday - Mickey Mouse first was seen in Plane Crazy, a single test screening. However, he officially debuted in Steamboat Willie (1928) on November 18, 1928 in New York City. Mickey went on to appear in over 130 films, primarily in short films, but also occasionally in feature-length films. Nine of Mickey's cartoons were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, one of which, Lend a Paw, won the award in 1942. In 1978, Mickey became the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

According to Disney World, Mickey Mouse’s image is the most reproduced in the world. Over 7,500 items bear his likeness. Jesus is number two, and Elvis is number three. Mickey Mouse's likeness was conceived by Walt Disney and first drawn together with artist Ub Iwerks.

Thanks JC - he certainly was!

Thanks Jan - I must check up about the gloves - someone else mentioned that they changed from black to white, but I hadn't realised he didn't have any gloves at all initially!!

Great puzzle, Mandy. Another interesting item - In Steamboat Willie, he had no gloves. They added gloves later to make him more "human!"
