Wonderful photo ❤️

Thank you for the insight, Ed. I was thinking that she is smiling (with a bit of a smirk) at being photographed in such an 'unladylike' position...truly proud of her artistic daring attitude.

There was a lot of discussion on the Shorpy.com website about the shorts. Some cultural context is useful here. In the 1930s and 40s Truro (on Cape Cod, near Provincetown) hosted a burgeoning colony of artists and writers. The woman with the shorts is the artist at her easel that Rosskam photographed from a distance in another picture on that site -- still wearing the shorts. I think this shows that the artistic community may have been a little risque in the 40's. Thanks for your comment Merrie.

There seems to be a lot of leg showing for the 40's. I guess the tennis racket gives a clue, but I didn't think the women wore short-shorts back then. I like the oilcloth on the floor and the clothes hanging on the wall.
