........... This waterfall is called Gullfoss, which means "golden" in Icelandic translation. He got his name according to the glittering pieces of mica in the lush riverbeds. In the 20th century, efforts were made to build a hydroelectric power plant on the river that would destroy the waterfall. Against this, local native Sigriður Tómasdóttir stood up, who said that if a construction had to take place, he would jump into the waterfall and end his life. The building eventually collapsed. The waterfall became the property of the state, and was declared a national park around it. Sigríður Tómasdóttir was perceived as a water saver and after her death, her monument was built. And so today, thanks to her, we can enjoy the view of his glittering waters ..........

...........Tento vodopád se jmenuje Gullfoss, což v překladu z islandštiny znamená zlatý. Svoje jméno dostal podle třpytících se kusů slídy ve zvířených říčních usazeninách. Ve 20. století byla snaha postavit na řece vodní elektrárnu, která by ovšem vodopád zničila. Proti tomu se postavila místní rodačka Sigríður Tómasdóttir, která prohlásila, že pokud by mělo dojít ke stavbě, tak skočí do vodopádu a ukončí svůj život. Ze stavby nakonec sešlo. Vodopád se stal majetkem státu a byl okolo něj vyhlášen národní park. Sigríður Tómasdóttir byla vnímána jako zachránkyně vodopádu a po její smrti byl u něj postaven její pomník. A tak se dnes i díky ní můžeme potěšit pohledem na jeho třpytivé vody..........
