@GrandmaCarman - Thanks again! I always wondered why I saw one dark horse, and now I know why. I'm going to try to find a picture of one. I guess it's kind of like as long as there are ravens at the Tower of London, the Tower will never fall. Cheers! :)
Also, most are not born white, but turn white as they reach adulthood. Also, there is a tradition that they always be reminded of that, so a solid black stallion is always kept at the riding school. The tradition is that as long as there is a solid black stallion, the riding school will continue. I saw a picture once of a beautiful dark haired woman dressed in traditional Spanish dress, dancing with the black stallion. It was a beautiful picture.
@GrandmaCarman - Thank you so much for the info! :) I had heard that the movements were created for battle, so it's nice to have that confirmed. Also, I have visited their website and have learned that mares and other horses that are not chosen for the School are available for sale! If I could only win that dang lottery.... Cheers!
Their beautiful 'dance moves' were originally moves to protect or defend themselves and their riders during battle. I can't remember which king owned them, and only the most favored were given them as a gift, especially generals, etc.
You are most welcome, Karenhub. As a bit of trivia, if you go to the Vienna Lippizaner website, they sometimes have stock for sale. I wish I'd won the lottery, I'd certainly add one to my life. :) Here is the link to their sale page: http://www.srs.at/en_US/pferdeverkauf-1-en/
