Why are you reporting this puzzle?

Is there anything better than trimming the tree at Christmas time? Sure, the presents are great, but the best part of the holiday is all the buildup. The caroling, the hot cocoa, and catching up with friends and family… isn’t that what the holidays are really about?

The holidays must have been so much fun in the early 20th century. With the family gathered around a crackling fire and a real tree, the smell of spices in the air, if we could go back we definitely would.

The Edwardian era was a special time, with a peaceful mood across the world and a fashion sense that can’t be ignored it really does seem like the perfect time for wintry bliss.

LOL! Down boy. Down! :o)

radiojerry

She looks like she could BE the Christmas present!

Tincup

@jerrys

Tincup

Oh you're right. Silly me!

jerrys

@Tincup don't forget (as if we could) the tattoos!

Tincup

Hell, except for the hair and the shoes, teens are wearing exactly this vintage clothing now. Possibly with a few chains, possibly a leather jacket, leather gloves, and aviator glasses. Replace those shoes with lace-up, steel-toed boots and a feather boa. It's called Steampunk.

lelabugosi

It's also the hairstyle that gives it away.

PutterDutt

Her dress does look a bit Flapper-ish, but it could be a slip she put on before the dress.

lelabugosi

Most certainly NOT Edwardian ..... possibly mid/late Twenties, as Jerry said.

PutterDutt

I love the scent of a real tree, but gave them up due to feeling too guilty about them dying.

dhi

I love the sentiment of the puzzle.

Yes, there were many fires from lit candles. Back in the day, trees were sparse with branches, but it still did not save them from going up like a Guy Fawkes display.

Can you imagine "The Edwardian era was a special time, with a peaceful mood across the world"?
Now, that is a sentiment that is worthy of 'the Good Old Days", all other considerations being excluded.

Isaly2

This look like she is wearing a fancy slip to light that candle. I love the smell of a real tree but with when I was still putting up a tree I used an artificial just to be on the safe side.

camaro72stroker

It was safe to use candles back then, they had better fire departments with the bucket brigade

PutterDutt

Hey, I look on those loose needles as a gift that keeps on giving. You get to enjoy the scent for months t come every time you vacuum!

NO, PW, you character.

manicpuzzler

LOL Jerry you could be right :))

jerrys

@manicpuzzler Where the mopboard' quarter-round meets the hardwood floor. I know I nozzle-vacced that area when we took down the tree. Maybe needles breed and multiply in dark, confined spaces?

ParsonWayne

Is that YOU lighting those candles on the Christmas tree in 1910, PD?

manicpuzzler

Where the carpet meets the wall?

jerrys

@manicpuzzler I just found some needles when vacuuming yesterday. Have additional month and a half to find more...and I'm sure I will!!

manicpuzzler

I agree with Jerry, the dress is far too short.

I love a real tree, but you can still be finding the needles in mid June!

jerrys

@PutterDutt Fun photo but her shoes and outfit scream a couple of decades newer than 1910, even if she was considered "progressive."

Jumble

Definitely better with a real tree, no plastic, but I can't understand why anyone would light a candle on a fresh tree.

I thought that was her underwear. No on the candles.

PutterDutt

I can't help but wonder how many real candles set the trees on fire.
