At 17, he completed his first significant work, Corso Donati, mortally wounded is transported by Monks of San Salvi to their Abbey, which won an award at the 1861 Florentine Triennale. His oeuvre includes Neo-Pompeian themes and Tuscan historical subjects.
In 1872, he signed an exclusive seven-year contract with the Goupil Gallery in Paris, enhancing his international reputation.
Sorbi became an academician at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts of Florence and an honorary associate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Urbino.
