If I remember right back in the early 1600's when Henry Hudson went up the river there were lots of Native Americans living in the valley. Some of the tribes were: Mohouk, Onodaga, Seneca, Munsee, and Mohicans to name just a few.....
These were unearthed by me on my property near the Shawangunk Kill in the Hudson Valley NY area around 2015 and since I retired to GA. Evidently there must have been an ongoing encampment there for more than 5000 yrs as I dug up many points and tools that were dated and they ranged from 3000 bc to 1000 ad.
