Warum meldest du dieses Rätsel?
In Today's Daily Jigsaw Puzzle, we visit Trakai Island Castle - an impressive castle situated on an island in Lithuania's Lake Galvė.
Trakai Island Castle is a masterpiece of Brick Gothic architecture, serving as a powerful symbol of medieval statehood.
Construction began in the late 14th century under Grand Duke Kęstutis. It was completed around 1409 by his son Vytautas the Great, who later died there in 1430. The castle served as both a military stronghold and a political center during the period when Trakai was the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
Surrounded by the tranquil waters of Lake Galvė - home to 21 islands - the castle was nearly impregnable. Nearby are the Peninsula Castle ruins, once part of Trakai's wider defensive system, and Užutrakis Manor, a neoclassical estate offering views across the lake.
After losing strategic value, the island castle served as a residence and prison before falling into ruin by the 17th century. Restoration began in the 20th century, with a major reconstruction completed in 1961.
Today, it stands as one of Lithuania's most iconic landmarks, housing the Trakai History Museum and being part of the Trakai Historical National Park ♥
