In Today's Daily Jigsaw Puzzle, we visit The Great Wall of China.

The Wall is one of the most iconic symbols of China. It is an extensive series of fortifications initially built to protect Chinese states and empires against invasions and raids by various nomadic groups from the Eurasian Steppe.

The construction of the Wall started as early as the 7th century BCE during the Warring States period, but most of the existing structure was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD).

The Great Wall, which spans approximately 13,000 miles from east to west, traverses rugged terrain, from deserts to mountains. It was built, rebuilt, and maintained by various dynasties. Despite its name, it is not a continuous wall but a network of walls and defensive barriers made of brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials.

In 1987, UNESCO designated the Great Wall a World Heritage site in recognition of its historical, strategic, and architectural significance.

Let's visit this astonishing work and learn much, much more about it, shall we! ♥

.
a natural or man-made site, area, or structure recognized as being of outstanding international importance and therefore as deserving special protection. Sites are nominated to and designated by the World Heritage Convention (an organization of UNESCO).
My point, I hope that sometime a candle or candles are lit for the fallen, who contributed in this structure.

nankypoo

So, is it a world wonder or a Memorial?

When Emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered construction of the Great Wall around 221 B.C., the labor force that built the wall was made up largely of soldiers and convicts. It is said that as many as 400,000 people died during the wall's construction; many of these workers were buried within the wall itself.
