In Today's Daily Jigsaw Puzzle, we visit the Nymphenburg Palace in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is a baroque style built in 1664 by Elector Ferdinand Maria and Henriette Adelaide of Savoy to celebrate the birth of their heir, Max Emanuel ♥

Over time, it became one of Europe's grandest palaces, blending baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical styles.

Max Emanuel expanded the palace significantly, adding the Great Hall, with its stunning frescoes by Johann Baptist Zimmermann, and transforming it into a symbol of Bavarian power. Elector Charles Albert and later rulers enriched the complex, creating a residence fit for royalty.

The sprawling palace park, initially a French-style garden by Dominique Girard, later became an English landscape garden under Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell. Within the park lie enchanting pavilions like the Amalienburg, a Rococo hunting lodge with an opulent Hall of Mirrors, and the Badenburg, featuring one of Europe's earliest indoor swimming pools.

Nymphenburg is the birthplace of King Ludwig II, the "Fairy Tale King," known for Neuschwanstein Castle. The palace also boasts the world's most extensive porcelain collection from the Nymphenburg Manufactory.

Today, Nymphenburg Palace is open to the public while also serving as a residence and chancery for the head of the House of Wittelsbach, currently Franz, Duke of Bavaria.

@erniwil I visited this palace in December 2010 in a blizzard! I had friends living in Munich at the time and it had snowed quite a lot, very icy etc. We went to an apartment somewhere near the palace to meet one of their friends and then walked from there to the palace, which was open for visitors, with a bitterly cold wind/snow blowing in our faces! Will not forget it but the palace was lovely and it would be nice to see the grounds in summer

There is a skating rink, indeed, in winter, some hundred meters to the east, on the Nymphenburg Canal!

Jigidi

@erniwil That must be sucha lovely place to take walks in! 🤭

Jigidi

@madale Looks like just a path, but it's a great idea! Maybe they should make a skating rink 😁

"...and I think to myself! What a wonderful (puzzle)"! LOL.

Is that a skating rink on the left side of the picture?? It looks like people are are skates. What a beauty of a palace. Thanks for posting.

Lovely picture, thank you.

@Hdarlene We guess, they really like swimming! 🤭

Europe's earliest indoor swimming pools was in the 1600. That it almost unbelievable that they could do that so many years ago. Thanks for the puzzle & information.
