The artwork in Today's Daily Jigsaw Puzzle is titled "The peace-breaker" (1860) and the artist is Johann Baptist Hofner ♥

Johann Baptist Hofner (1832–1913) was a German painter celebrated for his detailed depictions of rural life, particularly scenes featuring shepherdesses and their flocks.

Born in Aresing, Bavaria, he studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts under Karl von Piloty. Hofner was a close associate of Franz von Lenbach, with whom he co-founded the "Aresinger Artist Colony." His works were exhibited in Munich and Vienna from 1863, and he participated in the 1867 Paris World Exhibition.

Thanks for your responses, @wolfwoman and @SassyLassie.

Sheep's tails are not docked in Europe.

After enlarging the reddish thing in the lower left corner it appears to be some type of broad-leaf vegetation. The furry peace breaker to me it's some type of sheep. It has horns but they are small so he may be young. I've never seen a sheep with a tail that long. But then I'm not a sheep expert or world-traveled. What is that quote, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Beautiful painting and very interesting.

Looks to me to bea curled dried leaf.

Hey, Parson! After serious consideration... how 'bout some sort of mushroom? Or part of the chick's nest? Wondering the same thing here. Hopefully someone will read your question and have an answer!!! Also, don't think it's an animal as all animals in the picture are herbivores......

ParsonWayne

What is the reddish thing in the lower left-hand corner? @Jigidi

Jigidi

@nankypoo No one touches her babies! 😁😅

Jigidi

@gottfried10 😊❤️

Jigidi

@daisyadk Maybe it's just really curious about those little squickers! 😁

Jigidi

The ram is just being curious, but mama goose is fierce!

Incredible detailed art work, especially the plants

Part of the puzzle must be, what would a sheep want with ducklings?

ParsonWayne

It looks like a ram to me (a male sheep), @caninemom.

What is the furry animal?

ParsonWayne

Protecting the babies. Beautiful painting, @Jigidi.
