Proč jste nahlásili tuto hádanku?

In Today's Daily Jigsaw Puzzle, we visit Portland, Oregon, USA. Established in 1845, Portland has a rich history shaped by its location at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers.

The Chinook people originally inhabited the area and used it as a vital trading hub long before European settlers arrived. The city was named after Portland, Maine, following a now-famous coin toss between its founders, Asa Lovejoy and Francis Pettygrove.

Portland's growth surged during the mid-19th century, fueled by its role as a key destination on the Oregon Trail. Its strategic location made it a major port and center for the timber, shipping, and agricultural industries, contributing significantly to the economic development of the Pacific Northwest.

In the 20th century, Portland faced challenges such as organized crime and economic fluctuations but also embarked on progressive urban renewal. Post-World War II, it became a pioneer in environmental sustainability and urban planning, earning its reputation as one of the greenest cities in the United States. Known as the "City of Roses," it remains celebrated for its annual Rose Festival and vibrant cultural identity.

Today, Portland blends its historical roots with modern innovation and sustainability. As of recent estimates, over 650,000 people call Portland home ♥

@Stormie3 You can always change the number of pieces on the side menu. If you click on the three vertical dots at the top right, you will be able to open the side menu, and there you can find the button that says "change number of pieces."

Thanks for all the history. Great photo. Would love to have this puzzle available in more pieces.

You are correct about the brown. It is much prettier in the spring and summer.

@bevpuzzler8 Maybe it's time to visit ☺️

@nankypoo What a lovely place! 😁

@madale It seems like it's an autumn time, so the trees have no leaves, that's why it looks so dark in the background 🧐

Why does it look so brown and messy in the background of the city?

nankypoo

I was born there!

@Siena @judithellenmy @PennyTHD Thanks for your comments! 🤗

lovely Picture, I thought it might be Mount Rainier in the background. I am so glad someone said it was Mount Hood

Nice picture, thank you.

PennyTHD

Mount Hood is the volcano in the background. It is one of the Cascades volcanoes along the Western US coast. Mt. St Helens is another... Let's just hope Mt. Hood stays dormant.
