"Japanese Western-style Painter" is a description of what in Japanese is termed as "yoga" art.
It applies to Japanese art produced in the late 1890s to the 1930s - when Japanese artists were deeply influenced by European art. For example, they introduced to Japan works done in oils on canvas! It was about medium as well as style.
"Yoga" art has nothing to do with meditation or body postures.
It is from another root word entirely and happens to be a homonym of the other "yoga".
