Edward Henry Potthast (1857–1927) was an American Impressionist painter known for his sunlit beach scenes featuring families and children at Coney Island and New England resorts.
Born in Cincinnati, he studied at the McMicken School of Design and later in Munich, where he developed a traditional academic style. He worked as a lithographer until moving to New York City in 1895, where he embraced Impressionism, influenced by French painters and the American art scene.
A lifelong bachelor, he lived and worked in his studio until he died in 1927.
