Why are you reporting this puzzle?

The nearest belt of corn stubble was a considerable distance away; this is a telephoto shot of some of the deer. They seem healthy enough, although a bit lean. There were a number of fawns (judged by being smaller), and some of them would go cavorting around. The males lost their antlers in late December to mid-January, so at this point you can't tell the bucks from the does.

I worked the car closer to the main centers of activity in stages; when I'd start the car and roll forward on the shoulder, they'd stop feeding and look. Once I stopped, and nothing happened, they resumed feeding and ignored me.

Also, since the road traveled along the side of the field, they were used to cars. My car was behaving a little differently, but as long as it didn't approach them, they were fine with it. And deer don't have great daytime eyesight; perhaps it was the motor starting and running, then going off that was the main focus.

You were far enough away so as not to be considered a threat. Nice image, dondi.
