Hey nanlein, your Sooty sounds like a great cat to me! Before Goofie we had Happy....I loved him to bits and he was a real mummy's boy, he liked to be scratched, but he would turn around and grab and bite me out of the blue! We rescued him from the shelter at 6 months where he was brought to by a man of which the people from the shelter claimed ...'he was not a very pleasant man'. Happy was afraid of men and although it took my hubby a very long time to get his trust, he did respect my hubby and never hit him!! Our Lucky (before Happy) was a real daddy's boy! Lucky was our mellow, gentle and friendly giant (12 kilos in his good days!)
Goofie is mellow just like you describe Miss Charlie. He has a Pigeon friend in our garden (mainly in winter) but he's also death on mice!!!

Our three cats all like to be scratched on their backside too. Sassy has to be scratched as soon as you are up in the morning. Jazz and Herby any time of the day.

Hey Impie, Our latest version of Sooty came to us as a starving 5 week old, not sure how long he had been abandoned. Never had the discipline a mama cat would give, so he doesn't really know not to scratch or bite. But, now at 5 years, he's much better. We love him wholeheartedly and he is bonded to us so we forgive the occasional wound. Goofie is adorable. Looks a lot like one of our previous cats, Miss Charlie. She was very mellow with people but death on mousies! nan

Nanlein, you never need to watch out for Goofie. He came to us as a small kitten of 4,5 months old on October 12th 2001...from that day on he has never ever scratched or hit us!! When he's had enough, he'll just walk away!!!

I guess he heard something hence the ears, but it's never because he tries to warn us to stop. In fact we could go on for hours!! His tail also gives different signs....when we stroke him he'll wag his tail like a doggie.....OMG....there's not much privacy left of my poor boy...but I just try to give a picture of his lovely and friendly nature....and I love him to bits (you'd probably never would've guessed) :)))

Well, Tisket does this but we thought it was instinctive as that's where a "tom" would rub against her if he was being frisky (I'm trying to keep this in good taste), but now Goofie you've blown that theory to bits as I'm sure you're all male.
