Yes, that's just the way it went with us--same kind of winter, and the perennials that don't die to the ground in the winter were really hurt, whereas the ones that do are thriving. Thanks for answering! :-)))
I'm not sure about early or late since I've only had them a couple of years. We had a very long, snowy and cold winter. The bushes and plants that were more exposed had a hard time and are taking a while to recover. The plants that were covered by snow have come back well. These came back very well.
Our Monarda are in full bloom, too, but this is earlier than usual for us (Westchester County--lower Hudson Valley, NY)--is it for you, too? From your profile, I'm guessing that your climate zone is even cooler than ours... Love these! :-)))
