I started this little cactus over a year ago from one I already had, put it in a back bedroom window and forgot about it. It usually blooms around Easter, so I started to clean and found this! It hasn't had any water in ages, and now it's really putting on a show. My lucky day!

Yes, Monica! I couldn't believe I starved it and it rewarded me with these magnificent blooms! Go figure.

mhughes69

Really? It bloomed without any water for ages? That's truly amazing tex, I guess it was your lucky day!

texasstar7

Thanks, Mimi, I bet you are too. I've done in many a succulent like that!

mipahollo1

Tex this is just beautiful! I was worrying that I'm not watering mine enough, but I think maybe I'm doing it too much. I'll slow down some and see what happens. Thanks!

texasstar7

Thanks, Rob, Cel & Elfie for the good words. Keep your fingers crossed that it stays around!

Elfie

It WILL and MUST survive!! Thanks so very much tex!!

CelesteH

robryan

That's a real beauty tex!! I love the colour.

texasstar7

Thanks, Warb! I think it's pretty, too, and was thrilled when I found it ablaze with flowers!
Here is a puzzle I created so you can see my Orchid that I think is going to bloom. Please look at it and tell me what you think, you may need to show it to your wife, okay? Thanks.

Its beautiful, Texas and will be for awhile. There are alot of buds on there that haven't opened yet. Lucky you! Thanks

Anitas, your son is wrong on this subject. Many are the cacti I've murdered in my day, albeit with kindness. I have always tried to grow Aloe Vera and the like, and it lives with me for a month at most and then it's gone! Thanks, that should make you feel better. Smllpkg has too, she says. And yes, Chickie, it was a great surprise. GNT, hi, thanks and glad you liked it. Thanks, all, for stopping by and leaving comments.

This is beautiful. My son says that I'm the only one he knows who can kill a cactus.

smllpkg101

You're doing great with my "benign neglect" philosophy. Keep at it, tex. This is gorgeous!

chickiemama

What a surprise tex!

Great cacti with all those blossoms thanks for sharing with us texas :))

Thanks for the advice, Whizbang. Like I expressed below, I have never had good luck with succulents, and I think I give them too much care, including water. Also, I never know when to repot them. I have a Christmas cactus now that I've had about two years, and these two are about all I've ever managed to keep for more than a few months. So I'll hold my breath! Thanks again for stopping by.

texasstar, the xmas cactuses, like this one, are known to survive a long time without water. But as their roots fill in the pot, they need more water, or they start looking pretty piqued! So I suggest keeping this one and the succulents happy with at least an occasional drink!

texasstar7

Lyndee, you are soo right! But that's okay, maybe I'll try depriving the rest of the plants too. Save a lot of work! Thanks, Gladstone, happy to show it off.

lyndee

Well now you're going to be afraid to water it Tex! What a pleasant surprise that had to be!!!!

Gladstone

Great looking cactus. Thank you Tex for sharing.

texasstar7

Oh, yes, a place of honor, Bentley! Thanks.
Chooks, I was so surprised, I've killed so many succulents, and now we know why, too much attention. Thanks!

bentleyd

It must get pride of place now Tex. Its lovely.:-))

chookies

Just goes to show that some plants can survive without too much attention - and this one is a fine example - it looks beautiful and healthy, tex, and I love the color - matches that lovely porcelain shoe.

patsquire

Yes, sincere! Who'd'a thunk it?

texasstar7

Thank you, Rosebud and Amakrokis. I had watered it some but not in a long time. That's what makes them bloom. It was such a nice surprise to find it.

texasstar7

PS is that more sarcasm or do you really? I have a shoe collection, and this one has ivy in it. If you're sincere, thanks, glad you like it.

patsquire

Actually, I love the porcelain lady slipper. That's a lovely little piece of art.

patsquire

Gee, a cactus that doesn't need much water........amazing! :-)
