Why are you reporting this puzzle?

There was an incredible storm in Pensacola when we were there-they received over 20 inches of rain in less than a day.
When I went to the beach the next day, the sand was covered with dead star fish. I stood in one spot and counted over 80 without even moving.

Amazing amount of rain, yes it's sad to see the star fish dying.

Boy! That's a lot of rain!! And...an amazing number of dead starfish!! So sad, but that's Mother Nature at work!!! Thanks Suzy.

Thank you for all of your comments.
The storm really did a number on the wildlife. I'm not sure if it was all the fresh water from the rain, the relentless lightening or the high surf-or a combination of all that caused them to wash up on the beach as they did. In all of our years of going there, we have maybe seen one or two starfish total.
There was a little girl (as well as many adults) who was checking the starfish to see if they were alive so they could be put back in the water. Sadly, they were all dead. After doing my walk, I estimated there was close to 1000 of them on a 2.5 mile section of the beach.
I did collect a few to dry and will hang them on my Christmas tree.

20 inches of rain in a day is hard to comprehend.

lyndee

Did you bring them home for souvenirs???

goingsilver

Sadly they make a beautiful picture.

A bonanza though for the people who sell dead star fish and shells in the souvenir stores. Wonder if they collected them. Don't get me wrong - I don't buy things like that - would rather see them alive in the water.
