Ripe Sumac Berries - Ipswich MA

I think it is a native American shrub, Lorna. Both the leaves and berry spires turn a gorgeous red in the fall. It grows wild everywhere and is especially noticable in the fall. The colonists used to make a drink out of the berries that tasted similar to lemonade - or so I have read. I've never felt the urge to document that personally!!

A lovely vibrant colour. I'm unfamiliar with the name, but that is perhaps not surprising since my fingers are definitely not green!
