Lever, is popping corn really as hard as this, or does it have to be dried before it will pop properly? I've never seen it on the stalk. I always thought it was just regular corn that had been dried.

Ardy, we had the same kind of popper, and used it over the fire in the fireplace. (We had to wait until the fire was mostly hot coals.) But I never saw it still on the kernel until a couple of years ago. We had room for a corn field for eating, but kept most of the fields for hay for the sheep. And Dad had a couple of fields he rented out to other local farmers.

Thanks Edna and Patti.

Whee!! Fun, Jacki. Grandpa grew both sweet corn and popcorn. I thought it was fun to rub the kernels off. We had a wire basket with a sliding lid and a long handle that we moved rapidly over the burner on the stove to pop it. The melt some butter and add some salt. Yum!!! Thanks for such wonderful memories. Hoping the ground hog does not see his shadow but afraid he will. Hugs.

I grew popcorn and ate it myself when I had my big garden .
