Good question, Lectra. Great Blue Herons look like this all year long with black plumes on their head and long gray feathers on their neck. I took this photo in early December! Egrets, however, get breeding plumes on their upper backs, while bare parts around their eyes and base of bill will change color. On all herons and egrets, males and females look alike. They are majestic birds! I am glad you played my puzzle!
