Michael Orwick's studio looks like an interesting place to go! I'd enjoy that, too. . . if it worked out for us to do it together.

We cannot do a meal with John. He has had oral surgery - implants, and so much more and they are going to cut some more. So, he is without teeth and a bit self-conscious and also on soft foods only. It is not comfortable eating in front of him.

If you are going to the coast, antique stores abound on the way over.

Here are a few photos from the beach:

Upper left is a painter painting the view from that hike outside Cannon Beach. It is a wonderful vantage point for painting. The photo does NOT do i justice! Just below him (with the people) is a few steps away from the painter and you get a glimpse of the view. You can climb down (moderately easy) to the beach you see below. Upper right is the beach of Cannon Beach and lower right is the Heceta Head lighthouse.
This should give you a small taste of the coast.

As you firm up your plans, let me know and I will figure out when I would be able to see you during the visit. "Talk" to you soon! Gotta run to the gym now!

I am getting excited. I want to vist Michael Orwick's studio in Beaverton. That will really make the trip even more meaningful for me.
I've found seveal companies that charter fishing trips on the river, so I may just book one for Bud for Friday.

Really want to go here. I have some beautiful art glass and when we were in Benicia California for our 25th Wedding Anniversary, we went to several glass works there.

It would be so fun to experience the process and make something of my own out of glass.

It is supposed to be a surprise, what ever I plan. He did say he wanted it to include some salmon fishing. So I think we will do that on the way over. I need some quiet time, which I hope to get on the fishing end of the trip.
I've never been ot Oregon and he spent two weeks there back in the mid 70's and loved it.
A visit to the gardens would be uplifting for both of us. He is in amazing physical shape, I move a little slower, being short and chubby. But I am up for both of the gardens.
We would love to do lunch or even dinner with you and your sweetie.
Hitting an antique shop or two would put a smile on my face.
There is some really bad blood in our families so we can't drink at all, the the wineries are out. We did take a tour of the Napa Valley wineries a few years back, and even a "dry" run through them is fascinating.
I've never seen a lighthouse up close and would love to get photos and maybe come home and paint one. Every painter seems to have a lighthouse in their portfloio.
So at this point, I have made no real plans. I'm going to call some of Bud's fishing buddies today and find out where and how they fish the Columbia, then get on line and start making my map.
I have a friend that I am going to have teach art on the 17th in case we want to take an extra day, but she won't teach kids under 10 years old, so I have to be home on Tuesday for classes.
I'm excited to have a tour guide for your area. It makes it so nice to have some real insight into where to go and what to avoid.

Hi Peg,
It's so much more private to talk on an old puzzle, where everyone is not likely to read it. So, here are my questions.....Are you planning spend the whole time at the coast and just pass through Portland? Is it closer to 1/2 and 1/2?
Here are my favorite places to stay on the coast: Cannon Beach & Pacific City. They are both kind of straight across from Portland. There are some wonderful wineries to visit on the way to the coast. And all along the coast from Seaside to Newport, there are little shops and great restaurants. But, the best beaches are in the two places I mentioned first. Cannon beach also has a close area where you can take a short walk and look out over the whole area, including a lighthouse and picnic, etc. It has the most shops of all. Pacific city has a very long beach, is less populated and a wonderful brewery if you enjoy that sort of thing. It is much quieter, but still has easy beach access to long white sandy areas.

Portland is the craziest city. A big river runs through it and there are forest-y areas all over. It has also been developing some inner city areas into real shopping fun spots. You can rent bikes, take walking tours, visit the Rose Garden or the Japanese Garden. The waterfront is also a beautiful place to walk along.

Are these the kinds of things you are looking for? Please let me know what you are thinking and I will come up with some ideas.

If any of that includes finding time for coffee or lunch with me, I would love it. It you are too busy to do that, I will also understand! :D
