Help me name this bird, please. He ate all my red berries then flew off.

I should have known that! I found an old picture of one among my photos! I'll post it soon.

You Won, PGL1958. I do believe it is a young starling. Thanks for solving the name of the mystery bird.

texasstar7

I'm sure it isn't a Mockingbird, I live with them! Yes, redcottage, I'm live in Dallas, specifically Lakewood (Northeast Dallas).

redcottage

I'm befuddled.

I agree with PLG and chickie! Definitely looks like a juvenile starling - and they fly in flocks, unlike mockingbirds! Yay!

Brown Thrasher, maybe.

A juvenile starling has spots like that.

Could it be a juvenile European Starling? Here's one photo:

Young northern mockingbirds have dark spots, just checked internet

redcottage

It looked like a Texas mockingbird, dove, pigeon . They flew in very fast, ate the berries and flew off , total time 30 minutes. They have not come back and were extremely fast so it was hard to get a picture. There were about 20-30 birds at our cottage in Sault ste Marie. I have never seen this bird here.

Check this link to see if there's a resemblance. They would be at a different stage of development, but does it seem similar?

potatomum66

Where did you see this bird, redcottage? It's hard to tell what it might be from this angle. I'm thinking it might be a juvenile something, but what? Northern mockingbird, maybe But it's tail looks too short. It would help to know where it was when you saw it. :)

texasstar7 are you from Texas. My home is in Kerrville but I'm only there in the winter.

texasstar7

Me, too. I would've said a dove or pigeon, but those spots!

redcottage

The shape is that of a dove but the spots on the breast stump me.

Looks like a dove to me
