Usually this feeder has woodpeckers on it, but most birds like (and need) a bit of energy producing fat in the winter. During the storm there were moments when almost all the birds (but not the doves) found their way up here.

It's so nice to see YOUR birds - thanks so very much Jacki! :D

Rob, I think the seed tray is big enough and flat enough for them. The perches on most feeders are not particularly comfortable for pigeons and doves, so they stick to the ground.

Jo, that's terrible, to not be able to hang feeders. I'll throw a bit of extra seed out each day for you! (best I can think of from here.) :-))

A big thank you for feeding the birds.....I live in an apartment and we are not permitted to hang any sort of feeders up. Silly rules!

That seems like a popular spot Jacki!! It also looks REALLY cold:))) Our Crested Pigeons are the same when it comes to feeding - they only ever eat seeds, and prefer them on the ground but will raid the seed tray when the Lorikeets have left!! Thanks :))

Oh good Ardy! I hope they all came out well for you. I'm looking forward to seeing them!

Barbara, they eat seeds, the kinds that come in most packaged bird seed. But they (well, the ones I have here) will only eat from the ground. They generally come in flocks, and fly off all together at any disturbance. So I fill the bird feeders, then flick a big scoop of seed around the ground for the doves. Most everybody shares in what's on the ground, and the doves get a fair share of it. After that's gone the rest of the birds go back to the feeders and the doves disappear into the woods.

Sweet, Jacki. I was at my cousin's for lunch and the afternoon. Where we ate we could see all three feeders. In the suet feeder at different times they was a wren, a woodpecker, and one I didn't identify. The squirrel proof one, was mostly cardinals and nuthatches. There was a squirrel looking longingly at the feeder but there was plenty on the ground for it. Thanks. So much fun to watch. I took several pictures.

what do the doves eat? I have several of these type feeders up but you are correct the doves don't seem to eat at them...
