It was a prob with the graphics chip and would have been ongoing, Maggie. The old computer is destroyed and in the bin so there's no going back now. I like this new laptop with the big screen - better for Jigidi!! It's a nice day today . I hope you are having the same. I'll remember that useful tip from your son, though!
Well done, Maggie. It was beyond system restore. It just wouldn't open. I had a repair for the same prob a month ago (£65!!) and they gave a 3mth warranty as they said it was likely to happen again - and they were right!! I could have taken it back and have the repair done again but I would end up in the same situation. I bit the bullet and bought this laptop which has biggest laptop screen. It would have cost another £80 to get a data transfer as it had "died". My photos, etc. are on another computer. Sorry, I've gone on a bit. Bet you're sorry you asked. LOL
Hi, Maggie. I had a disaster yesterday. My computer died (less than 2yrs old) and I lost my files of future jigs so I've got to start collecting again!! GRRRRRR!! Weather not good is it? Speak soon.
Now see John if you hadn't mentioned the emblens-emblems thing, I would never have even noticed. PD was right about the sorting though. Too bad I didn't see her note before I got mine sorted.
Yeah, emblens - emblems! It was close. One of those things you notice just after you post it! I did the same with the bridge jig,. It is 18th not 19th century. I even posted a comment to that effect. Take care.
But that was my point! It never worked before, because there were so many different variations on where the colors or diagonals or lines occurred on the pieces that it wasn't much of a help in sorting them that way. This just happened to be a puzzle that fit! So don't go looking for puzzles that won't work for my method--all of the ones you posted before this already fit that category!
too technical for me, pd!! remember i'm only a bloke! your system certainly worked on this one. i'll have to post something that you can't use this logic on. see you next time. best wishes.
When I can't see patterns or images that I can sort for, or, as in this case, they're so tiny that I find it impossible, I try to find another criterion. This time I sorted into 5 categories, besides the border: pieces with a vertical line 1/3 of the way in from the right, ditto for the left, then (with those with no vertical lines) those with a horizontal line 1/3 of the way from the top, and ditto for from the bottom of the piece, and, finally, those where the lines were barely visible around all 4 edges. Believe it or not, all the pieces fit those categories--none had lines right down the center or barely in from the edge or anything but those places I mentioned! Once all that sorting was done, I made the border, then made chains in each category, and they fit right into the border. That's why I said that my method was a lucky one this time--I didn't know when I began that the pieces would sort so cleanly!
Finally--one where my method of sorting worked well!!! It took almost as long to sort as it took to solve, but then the pieces clicked in place so much more easily than they ever have before on one of your monsters. Thanks for the fun, John!
