As you enter from the Heckman Rock Garden enjoy a commanding view of the whole house, including a large stone portico. Designed by the firm of Barnett, Haynes and Barnett, the portico was the main entrance to St. Leo's School in south St. Louis, built in 1902. It was salvaged from the school's demolition in 1978.

The Shoenberg Temperate House was built in 1990 and features plants from five regions of the world that share a Mediterranean climate: warm, dry summers and cool, rainy winters. It also features plants of the southeastern United States, and plants from China and Japan. Late winter and early spring is the best time of the year to enjoy the Temperate House, as spring comes two months early indoors.

Today, I went to two places in St Louis: 1) The World Bird Sanctuary 2) The Butterfly House (run by Missouri Botanical Garden, but not on their main campus where we were). The World Bird Sanctuary has Bald Eagles, Owls, Hawks, Falcons, Vultures, Parrots, Reptiles and a lot more! The Butterfly House was amazing! It was the same environment as the Climatron at the Gardens, but with hundreds of butterflies flying all over the place. They twirl and swirl all around you. If you stop walking, they land on you. They had a lot of tropical plants and flowers, plus waterfalls and running creeks. We could not go there on our excursion in March because it is closed on Mondays.

That is why it is critical that we schedule another meeting of the minds, laura!
The World needs us!!!

laurajane

That is precisely why we needed you there, morris. Now look what happened. The world is still in chaos.
Graci, no joke. PG has it all figured out.

morris186

That's because I was not there, lyndee! John, pg and myself could really take care of business!!

Lyndee would have noticed this but she was too busy yelling at John and myself as we were solving the world problems. I hope she is happy now and just think John has some wonderful pictures of the house because we just moved on and took pictures.

lyndee
